Public Transport Experiences

So I wanted to post this up after a few events occurred between my 4R and our local public transport system (Colorado Buses).

1st Event: The year was 2016, we had a massive snow storm and multiple people ended up in side ditches along I-25 and city roads. Another 4Runner and I were towing people out/home to help people. During one of our tows, a public bus passed us doing about 45 in a 30 with over 5 inches of snow on the ground. During the pass, he cut us off, fishtailed and hit a curb then continued on to pick up passengers. As we drove by doing 20 at most with a car in tow, the driver flipped us off. We were clearly marked with white/amber strobes and stayed in the slow lane the entire drive.

2nd Event: 2018 a public transport bus pulled a U-turn in a 35mph zone, causing a Prius, civic, and F150 to stand on their brakes in front of me. I locked up my brakes and ended up hitting the F150. No damage was done to his off-road bumper nor mine, so we ended up chatting and I gave him my un-opened can of Cope for his troubles. Turns out he ended up living a block from me and we still hangout to this day. The bus didn't signal from what I heard- he just whipped a U-turn.

3rd Event: Today coming home from Home Depot, a public transit bus accelerated into heavy 5-o'clock traffic right next to me. He clipped my mirror (no damage done to my vehicle) and proceeded to lay on his horn and issue several middle fingers to me. I tried to move into the next lane, but cars were there. I went home and realized I just needed some more black paint on my mirror. If he had fully committed without signaling- could he have totaled my truck? I have heard horror stories of public transport totaling vehicles while not paying attention.


What experiences have you had with public transport pulling "I am the law" moves?? Luckily I am moving cities soon and won't have to deal with college town crap much longer, but I want to know- am I the only one experiencing this craziness?

Around here there is very little public transportation but the school bus drivers are completely insane, they will cut you off, pull out in front of you, an take turns half way into the oncoming lane

Since public transit is almost always a completely local City issue, a better thread title might be "why do public services in Fort Collins CO suck?" And then we can debate why that is case.

I live in San Diego and I've never had any complaints about the bus drivers here.

I suppose I'll say in "the cities of Colorado"- these events took place in Denver, Boulder, and here in Fort Collins.

I'm in Chicago so most of my terrible public transit stories are from INSIDE the bus. I like mass transit. I don't take it very often, but I really like being able to go to the bar and not count my drinks. I have a lot of respect for the CTA drivers because I can't imagine having to deal with a bus load of people AND Chicago traffic (and believe me, it gets weird in the bus). At the same time I have very little patience when they're out of line (and they sometimes are). I don't hesitate to call 311 and report buses driving with their high-beams on or failing to follow the proper route on a detour. I also don't hesitate to personally complement a particularly smooth driver.

I also sympathize with buses pushing out into traffic. It's frustrating when you're behind one, but I used to drive heavy implement in the city and if I didn't push out into traffic, no one was going to let me in. After a certain point, in city traffic, my turn signal wasn't so much a request as it was a notification that unless you yield you better be right with Jesus. You'd be surprised at how close I can put the tracks of a 50,000lb dozer to your wing mirror. I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying that when it's your job and nobody is doing you any favors... well...

If they're dangerous, report 'em. But sometimes you gotta give 'em a brake [sic].

you need to invest in a dash cam, do the one with front and rear cameras.

When the Denver light rail first opened to DIA, I took the light rail to get to the airport for a month in an attempt to avoid traffic and not pay parking fees (I lived kinda close to a station in Thornton). I missed 4 out of 5 flights that month because of it. In order, it 1) broke down, 2) hit a car, 3) lost power, and 4) was shot at in Aurora.

I received a decent check from the city because of all the missed flights, which was nice. But the Mayor was on the news a few weeks later saying he wouldnt trust it, which I found hilarious.


As far as buses, they drive with the same attitude as semi-truck drivers. The big difference is that semi drivers have extensive training. I don't trust them and keep back as much as possible... or pass them as fast as possible.

When the buses are pulled over at stops you better always expect them to just pull out in front of you in the right line. They have size and just force their way into the traffic lanes.

I try to avoid them.

Fort Collins must have some shit bus drivers. In NYC the scariest thing about public transport is if some crackhead starts fapping on the subway.

Everyone sucks at driving here even the general public.

I can't tell you how many times I've had people merge & turn into my lane and look at me like its my fault.
