puddle lights on '24 PRO

We just bought the wife a24 Terra Pro and love it. When the dealer told me about it, they sent me a build sheet with a bunch of port added options that I was able to remove to save us some money. One of the options was $550 for led puddle lights, which I though was excessive. When the car arrived I saw that it had the light housing underneath the mirror, but it didn't illuminate. Is this something that they just unplugged or is it a programming thing? Can I just pop the cap of the mirror and plug it in? I was going to buy the MISO puddle light as an upgrade if I could get it to work.

You should be able to pop off the mirror covers. Start with the top front cover. Once you get the cover off, you can see what is going on inside. Just be careful since some of the mounting tabs on the cover can be broken off. Find some videos that show mods to the outside mirrors on how to do it. Here is one: LED Side Mirror Sequential Dynamic Turn Signal Light For TOYOTA 4Runner 2014-2023 / RAV4 2013-2018(Not suitable for without OEM turn signal)

For my '18 4Runner SR5 Premium, the puddle lights come standard (free of charge for that trim level), but I did take out the original lights and replaced them with LED lights. Fairly easy to do once the covers are off.

PS: As far as I know there is no setting in Techstream to enable the puddle lights.

I'd bet they pulled their LED bulbs and you just have empty sockets. The OEM bulbs are absolute crap anyway so no big loss. You can probably just buy/install the correct LED bulbs and be good to go. I have used VLED, good but they don't have the pointy ends to engage the socket clips on the dome lights, not sure how the puddle lights are set up.

I'll give this a shot when I can get some milder temps. I hate to try and unclip plastic clips with it so cold out.

The "pointy end" bulbs have a DE designation which means Double Ended, like this SYLVANIA DE3175 Long Life Mini Bulb, 2 Pack

In the newer Toyotas with built in OEM LEDs, the "bulbs" are permanently soldered in and cannot be removed or replaced with brighter ones.

The puddle lights in my '18 4Runner are the wedge style, but perhaps newer Toyotas may have permanent soldered in LEDs.

The OP will never know what his 4Runner has until he pops off the covers.

Edit: The major suppliers of LED lights for cars make them for all locations -- wedge, DE, bayonet, etc. Lasfit is the one I have used a lot.

$550 for LED puddle lights??? Ridiculous. The PRO comes stock with puddle lights. But they are incandescent, like all of the interior lights. I bought a kit on Amazon for less than $50 and replaced all the interior lighting, the License plate lights and the puddle lights with LED bulbs. Take your time with those mirror caps. They're tricky.

If they are the same as my '18 4Runner, they are 168 light bulbs, which you can replace with the Led equivalent: Amazon.com

But I thought Toyota changed everything to LED in '22 or '23. The OP has a '24. I know the RAV4 changed all the interior lights to LED in '22; they are not replaceable.

Edit: Puddle lights are sometimes called foot lights (NOT footwell lights) because they light up your feet when they are on.

You're comment got me questioning whether or not I was talking about the right thing, so I went back and looked at the original build sheet. Turns out the actual phrasing is "LED Under-car Puddle Illumination". So I think these are lights actually underneath the car, not in the mirrors. I did a quick google search and found this kit ( 00016-48073 - LED Under-car Puddle Illumination - | Sparks Parts ), though I'm not sure if this is what they were talking about.

The 00016 part number means it is sold by SET (Southeast Toyota Distributor), the exclusive Toyota distributor for the southeast states. Do you live in the southeast US? Usually those accessories can only be purchased from dealers in that area.
