Pulled out 3rd Row Seats on Limited - Flooring Ideas Anyone?

Quick question are you keeping the seat belt securing tabs (for the 3rd row) for your vehicle? If not I’ll buy them (pictured)! View attachment 299579. Additionally I’m actually trying to do the reverse and install seats I purchased and before I go ahead and rip everything on apart I wanted to see if any of y’all followed a tech man/instruction or something like that so I could use that in my install. Thanks.

It makes sense to me. At lease leave one seat with an exatra tool box.

Hello all. This is my own follow up to this thread which was started a long time ago. It is however the most popular “remove third row seats” conversation that I’ve found, so following RC_80's original post, I’m adding my own efforts to finishing the job.

Removed the rear seat cover (bolts are under the tie-downs) removed rear trim and the side (back of wheel well) cover plates. Removed rear frame support. Then the seats and seatbelt assemblies were removed leaving it looking like the RC_80’s photos. The seats weigh in at 50 lbs each for a total weight reduction of 100 lbs. I spent about $60 on the aluminum to frame the storage area. The carper was $21 total. A few bucks for the half sheet of 3/8 plywood and a box of pop rivets. That’s about it in cost.

After framing, reinstalled the rear trim and frame support as well as side covers. Cut the new plywood and wrapped with auto carpet. OEM cover panel went back in with the bonus of retaining the tie-downs! Covered it all up with a WeatherTech mat.

I calculate I’ve gained 5.25 cubic feet of additional storage. Its not too tall, but is perfect for a couple duffle bags with jumper cables, tow ropes, a few tools, etc that I want to keep in the truck, but don’t need to have taking up the visible storage part of the trunk. The carpet over the exposed trunk wasn’t really necessary, but I wanted to protect the now exposed harness elements and figured it would be good for keeping things quiet. I’m really happy with how this turned out.

I don't have measurements. Everything was measure/cut, measure/cut. Just be patient and it will all work out. Good luck.

For anyone that has tried this, I have a few questions.

1. regarding the materials you used for the frame. What size is the square frame, is it 1”?

2. Also the edge 90deg metal. What size or thickness is that? For those edge pieces did you just rivet those into the black side panels?

3. Last question. For the front of the frame right behind the 2nd row seats that are bolted down. how and what did you use there. Did you just river L brackets into the holes that are there for the 3rd row seats.

Hey Marty. Sorry for the delay in responding. That square tube is 3/4" (Lowes part number 11388 ) and the right angle is 3/4" as well (#11330). The L-brackets are all simply riveted to either the floor pan or yes, the plastic side walls. Riveting into the plastic is clearly not ideal. Not shown in any of these photos is vertical square support along the sides that were added after the rivets pulled through the plastic. We learn from our mistakes. Go slow, measure a bunch and build as you go. This has been in place for 7 years now and I'm still really happy with how well it worked out.

As my daily driver I didn't want the weight and the bulk of any drawers and such. So here is my rendition of what it looks like and what I decided to do with that space. All materials where bought from Home Depot. I used a 4x4 pre cut 5/8 plywood ($50). The gray carpet was an area rug 6'x8' that's $22. spray adhesive to hold it down. I filled the holes the seats were screwed Into with hot glue just so it's covered. I also used 1x6 for the side hinges.

As you can see I kept the back part of the frame that runs horizontally so the plywood can have something to rest on.

Above is the length I went with. That's with the seats all the way back.

And this is the width.

Last minute I decided to put a 30 inch long hinge in the middle so it's easy to lift if needed.

In the above picture you can see that it sits a little higher than the edge. That's because I decided to use and keep the frame just in case for the future. Hopefully it will keep items down as well.
