Went down to look at a used Toyota Certified 4Runner Trail in the blue color. Took it for a test drive, and honestly, it is just like the new vehicles I have driven. 25k miles, looks like new, not a scratch on the underside, so it probably never saw dirt. Does not have navigation, but I prefer that. Paid $31k. I probably could have shopped and found a private party seller for less, but really, with the 100k warranty of certified pre-owned, it is worth it to me. Looking forward to many good years with this vehicle. Now for mods.......

It's a 2011. Won't have pics til friday when I pick it up. Having some stains removed from rear headliner and a scratch on the roof repaired. Need new tires right away, thinking of 275/70 17 BFG all terrains. It wasn't that quick, really. You can search back and see I first started researching this about november, and vacillated between the 4Runner and the Wrangler for quite a while.

The stains on the rear headliner would make me want to check carefully for a leaking roof rack mount. I just picked up a used 2010 Trail (24,700 miles) and the roof leaked pretty severely (rear driver's side) during the first hard rain. Needless to say I was not a happy camper. I called the previous owner and they swore they never had it out of the garage in the rain. (Yeah right! When I took off the roof rack it was obvious that someone had tried to repair a leak in the past.)
The mounting bracket under the roof (above the headliner) broke off its mount when I tried to remove one of the roof rack bolts that had essentially been glued in place (with sealant someone had used to try to seal the leak). I spent several hours dropping the headliner so that I could get to the mangled bracket and get the bolt loose. I remounted the roof rack with the addition of rubber gaskets and lots of silicone sealant so I hope I have the issue fixed. What a way to put a "damper" on a new (for me) vehicle purchase!
Very good point. In fact, I found it odd that the headliner was stained, looked like a water stain, but I couldn't see how that could happen. I will be calling in the morning. There is a gouge in the roof, which doesn't bother me, but it may indicate some sort of traumatic hit to the rack.
Follow up with a pic. Love the ride so far, although it is a bit lacking in some features, such as auto headlights and built in usb port, in addition to no rearseat 12v outlet. Overall, it is exactly the improvement over my subaru outback I was looking for.View attachment 114904

Yes, way back on the left side of the glove box there should be USB outlet. There is also a headphone jack in the area below the HVAC as well.
Good luck with the purchase, don't let the dealer off the hook on the roof leak. You want to be sure that leak is documented so that if it returns you can document that it (the leak) was there when you purchased the vehicle.

The switch for your lights may not say auto but if you leave them on when leaving the truck then they should cycle off. You should also be able to hit the lock button on your keyless twice and that will shut them off. Hope its the same for you as I thought mine weren't auto as well.
Found the USB, and a surprise 12v outlet as well. Thx. Auto lights are only auto off, correct? Meaning if I have them in the on position, they will always be on, and only turn off when I turn the vehicle off, correct? If so, that is weak. My 2002 Chevy pickup had auto on/off lights. If these are my only issues, I'll be pretty happy!
Correct, if you leave your lights on they will automatically turn off after a certain amount of time. As soon as you fire up the engine your headlights will also be working, as they're still in the "on" position.
I suppose if you were in Alaska or far northern Canada during the winter when it's dark almost all day, that system would be perfect....LOL However I agree with you, it's odd they just don't employ a straight auto system for the lights on a Runner. My wife's Venza was far less money and even it has an auto setting.
Good luck on your new rig, and I'd sure follow up on Keith advice about the headliner stain. I've owned cars since the 60's, with some of them far older than four years. No one had an issue like that and on a 2010 something's not right.
