Pulls to the right when braking in the rain

Greetings, I am usually over on the 4th Gen forum but my friend that has a 2001 has a problem with his 4R pulling to the right when braking in the rain. I would have thought it was a caliper sticking but it seems like it would pull when braking under any conditions if that was the case. Does anyone have any ideas as to why driving in the rain would make it pull when braking? It does not pull when dry.

Interesting. Try a tire rotation to see if the issue follows the tire. My best guess is that the complicated ABS system installed on the 01-02s is detecting slight slippage in the right front wheel and is applying more hydraulic pressure than usual. That would explain why it does not happen when it's not raining, since there is less of a chance for slipping.

Interesting idea on the ABS system being the cause. I'm not sure there is necessarily slippage when it happens, unless it is undetectable.

Anyway, this got me looking around and come to find out that some modern cars have automatic brake wiping in the rain where the brakes are lightly applied every so often (not enough to be noticeable) to dry the rotors off (a safety feature). It's activated by your windshield wipers being on. Anyone ever heard of this? I would assume a 2001 4Runner would not have such a feature but it sounds interesting.

Have you double checked your tire pressure?

Also maybe check your Control Arm Bushings?
