Hi all. I'm new here and am hoping you can help answer some questions before I buy my 4runner. My price range seems to be in the 4th generation and 2003 to 2005 year models. I hope to find something with less than 70k miles, but will consider more if it appears to be well cared for.

First of all are the differences between the SR5 and Sport purely cosmetic?

Is there much difference in gas mileage between the v6 and v8? I really don't think I would need any more than the v6, but if a good deal came up for a v8 I would consider it.

Are either of the engines more reliable that the other?

What should I look out for when I inspect the trucks?

First of all are the differences between the SR5 and Sport purely cosmetic? Mostly, Sport does have XREAS, larger brakes, and 17in rims to accomodate the bigger calipers.

Is there much difference in gas mileage between the v6 and v8? I really don't think I would need any more than the v6, but if a good deal came up for a v8 I would consider it.
Not much at all, maybe a few ticks better on the V6.

Are either of the engines more reliable that the other?
Both are VERY good engines, V6 has a timing chain, V8 has a belt (90K change) Keep this in mind when looking at mileage as it would be an expense)

What should I look out for when I inspect the trucks?
Nothing stands out for me, rust, leaks, the usual.
