I am working on purchasing a new 4Runner and have spent a considerable amount of time here on the forum. I have learned an incredible amount about many things; lift kits, builds- adding additional lighting, roof-racks, etc... There is another thread here on the forum that was started a couple of years back and has many responses. I thought I would start a new one to see how things may have changed since then and what might be realistic with regards to purchasing and experiences.
I will most likely be special ordering the model w/ the exact options I want and so negotiating a strong deal doesn't look like it is very likely. If members have suggestions on how to approach this to get a better deal than MSRP I am all ears. And, what is a good deal on a 4Runner; invoice, below invoice, somewhere in-between, and what add-ons by the dealer are bogus?
I went through Toyota's site to get an idea of what the listed cost might be to start saving/budgeting and looking for the best deal. The very first thing that struck me as a bit annoying is any other color than white you cannot get the sliding cargo tray- not something that is essential for me, but just how far Toyota manages their costs and not allow for their customer to get what they want, even when ordering. When choosing magnetic gray you lose the option to get the sliding cargo tray but it also jumps the price up + $500 and any other color is again losing the sliding tray and the price jumps + $1400... I have never heard of the paint colors adding to the cost, is this standard?
The next thing after choosing the color in the packages section the cost of adding on a sunroof is $100, but if you want to add KDSS and a sunroof, the sunroof cost jumps up to $800... again my only thought to this rationale is it is in the labor costs on their assembly line.
What is the Keep It Wild Savings? Another frustrating thing on Toyota's site is while in the package section when clicking on the details of any of the packages it doesn't provide any details, only a pop-up window that re-lists the same information on the previous window... ugh...
One option I would like some input on the Bilstein Shocks and Springs option. Does this option level out the ride and would you order this over doing it later with the ability to choose a different manufacturer? The things I have learned here reading through the "Lift Section" is how many different lift kits there are with different ride heights and dampening rates. I do not have any experience with the better suspension components, only driven the stock suspension.
