I found an '00 4Runner SR5 4x4, auto, moonroof, etc. $7950 out the door. Bad news - 167,000 miles. Is this smart? This would be my main daily vehicle. Any advise. This thing is pristine, seems to have been well maintained and it's obviously highway miles.

kbb says private party with those miles is like $7600 or so. Any maintenance items I should be checking on in particular? Timing belt, belts, tranny items, anything specific to 4Runners? Never owned a Toyota

Check for a little sticker on the engine to say timing belt has been replaced.
Have you driven it? How does it feel?

both rear axle seals... those go out around 80-120 K miles.... u can tell if there is oil splatter onthe inside rear weels... um.. ill keep thinking

I'll check for that, thanks. Any one else got any ideas? I notice that many of you have well over 170,000 miles and it definately calms my nerves a bit.

There are many many guys with 3rd gens with over 200,000 miles and counting. They are solid vehicles, if cared for. Make sure that the maintenance was done. Also, does it have a push button 4wd or lever? Either way, test out the 4wd on a dirt road (not on dry pavement). Does it have a locker? It's the button to the left of the steering wheel maked "R/R Lock". Test that out, too.

Look under the vehicle to see if there are any leaks. If it looks like a solid car to you, then go to a Toyota dealership or an independent mechanic and get a PPI.

If everything checks out and no foreseeable issues that could crop up then that isn't a bad deal even if it was a year older.

7500 and she was mine boys! Drove her to work this am at 90 mph with no problems. I'll detail her Sat. and post a couple pics as well as change fluids, do some paint touch up on the hood, remove the running boards, etc., etc. Thanks for the input!
