purchasing Sat... thoughts?

mainly looking for advice on what to look out for. I know he hasn't had the 2nd timing belt change...

Has had radiator plugs & wires, etc.
 
Check for any frame rust. We have a new member who is going through a hard time with his purchase and rust.

Pull the dip stick and look for any sign of fumes/oil. You can rev any look for any signs of oil/fumes coming out from the dip stick hole. Good engine will not send any from this hole.

IF you go there in the morning, check the coolant level and reserve tank level. Radiator level got to be to the top.

Any records of oil change, T-belt change etc., Will need this in your future services.

Drive the truck ina straight road and see whether it goes straight (slightly release the steering wheel and see whether it pulls to either side)
 
I'll be in Austin tomorrow thru sunday, if you need me to check it out for you I dont mind... it'll save ya a trip anway. I have a 2nd gen and 3rd gen both 4x4s
 
me either. I'm hitting him at 3700 he said there's some room but not much. His mechanic said it doesn't need another timing belt @ 200k which concerns me.

FYI, light oil smoke with the dipstick removed is normal. Crankcase pressure is just taking the path of least resistance. If it pours out, I'd be looking at a clogged pcv valve, but its generally something minor and shouldn't be a deterrent from buying.
 
Has it had any timing work at all or just not one since 100k?
At 200k, even if it had one done at 100k; it is time for another. Use teh water pump/timing belt as leverage, you;ll be spending some cash on that.

Also check the lower ball joints if you can. If it is the original to the vehicle, you;ll probably have to replace them.
 
He had it changed at 100k, just not 200. Also did radiator and other service work. From talking to the guy i can tell he keeps up with maintenance. Will check on the balljoints, is the recall still in effect?
