Purpose for this(need?)

This plastic cover. Does it serve any real purpose? Dust cover maybe? Mine cracked and since not all the way thru the length of it is very hard to glue as my crappy attempt indicates. Anyone else take it off and throw it away? Anyone else's cracked?. Seems like a cheap POS. Warranty item?

Kinda figured that. Was wondering how many have purposely removed it, if any. I can buff out the glue when it drys but won't ever be perfect. Rather just toss it maybe.

The cover is not purely for cosmetics.

It helps to keep some of the intake/engine noise out of the cabin too.

It won't hurt anything if you remove it though!

Yep, Antman said it's there for noise mitigation, not cosmetics. The Toyota logo in it is for looks though.

hopefully they'll make it more attractive and put the engine cover over the center of the engine instead of offset like it is in the next model

(I kind of miss the old days of nice valve covers instead of plastic covers..)

Actually dust and dirt seems to collect underneath it. The reason I usually take it off, to clean under. The rest of the engine generally stays cleaner than under this cover.

It's really there to cover up the butt-ugly black plastic intake manifold. Now if the manifold was a nice shiny aluminum casting, that would be a different story.
