Push button 4wd binds in reverse but not 4hi or 4lo

Hey guys so I recently put in a new front diff because I just swapped in an elocker axle in the rear. Gear ratios didn't match so I also had to replace the front. Well as some 3rd gens have the push button 4wd mode that basically acts like an AWD. When I activate this it binds the whole front end going in reverse but not drive. If I'm in 4hi or 4lo everything is completely fine. Has anyone ever heard of this? I like to use the push button quite often so I'd like to figure this out!

The only way this could happen is for the diff in the transfer case to lock when in reverse but not in forward gears.
 
Wait, so is your rig an '01/02 with the multi-mode t-case, or the '96-00 Limited with the push-button 4WD t-case?
The fact everything is fine in D, but not in R, is definitely perplexing.
You can drive around the neighborhood all day in 4WD, but as soon as you try to back up, something binds?

It's a 2000 so it's got the push button. Everything is perfect in drive going forward in all modes. When only the 4wd push button is activated in reverse it binds. Reverse is fine in 2wd, 4hi, 4lo, and locker activated but not AWD mode.

Could this front diff that came off an SR5 that didn't have the push button mode have anything to do with it?

Oh, I was mistaken about the multi-mode years.
That definitely sounds like a t-case issue. Is there an indicator switch on the front diff that may not be working properly? All the connectors matched up to your new diff, and no connectors were left un-plugged? Maybe the AWD part of the ECU doesn't know the ADD sleeve is engaged...
Wish I could help more. I'm interested to see what fixes it.
 
Ok still haven't figured out the problem..

Now it binds only in 4hi while turning. When the center diff is unlocked in AWD it drives fine but pulls to the left when I go over 25mph. Sometimes it'll bind in reverse going straight or turning. Just sometimes.. CV axles and bearings are fine. I have noticed I can get under the truck and push the front diff up a little like it's not seated properly. Can't tell if there's a missing bolt or not

What year rig did front diff come from? The older push button like my 96 was for 4hi. Not AWD. Just switches you from 2wd to 4hi. Maybe toy have an older push button diff installed.
 
First, did you verify 100% that the front and rear diffs have the same ratio? (or, at least came from the same parts truck)

Second, try jacking up the front diff a bit to see if it is indeed loose. There are the two front mounting brackets and the one in the rear near where the driveshaft bolts on.

Any chance the vacuum lines to the ADD are backwards? Who did the front diff install?

Both diffs came from the same truck and the diff is a little loose.
