Just now seeing your build & it's a good looking start. Was a bummer to see the damage and the dash cam vid made me cringe, scary stuff. Cool to see you bring your 4runner back to life. I would like to think I would do the same if I was in your position. These types of fixes can seem long & drawn out at times but don't get burnt out & stay positive, the end result will be well worth it. Keep up the good work. :cheers:

Puttster, dude, so sorry for your loss. I can identify with how you feel - my 99 wasn't totaled, but I was worried. I commend you for taking on the repair project, hope it works out for the best. Also, taking notes from your build thread for my future project :thumb:



Just checked my dash cam for footage from two days ago where a cyclist ran into a car ahead of me stopped at a traffic light. Damn clip got overwritten, it was funny af :bash:

When looking at the 1st post, I have to admit that I wasn't expecting to see this thing brought back to life. I like where it's going though and I'm excited to see it after the repairs. Kudos for taking on the fix instead of totaling it.

Update (again)

Sooo close yet so far, doors are hung, still waiting to get put on frame machine to pull out the inner rocker. Links should get here tomorrow, and luckily Matt (from SRQ Fabrications) gave me a sweet deal on a little surprise :naughty:. Chris (my body guy) has some sweet projects going on in his shop! Pictured is a 60 series LS V8 swap and a full 95 Range Rover restoration. Also my bumper came in, but the delivery guys man handled it a little too much so there's a little surface rust. I want to wheel SO bad, I'm probably gonna end up breaking it more when it's done.

I like your bumper choice would be cool if you are able to take pictures of the installation process. Wondering what some of the differences are on the installation of the apex bumper compared to others. Where are you getting your work done?

With your quarter panel off on the passenger side, I'd do the tacoma whip mod and get rid of the power antenna which will certainly fail.

Will do. It’s actually getting done at my buddy’s shop called Automotion LLC, it’s lit in Gainesville. He’s a great guy who knows what he’s doing and works for a fair rate.

Get an antenna from the junkyard...likely give it to you for free. The $60 base does blow, and I am sure could be found in a junkyard too but I didn't have enough time to scour the internet for what exact models that could be found in before the grinding drove me crazy.

Here's some progress on the repair (mainly the bumper): To install the apex, you're supposed to cut the frame rails back, weld in the adapter plates they give you, and bolt to those and the 2 holes from the original bumper bracket. Since I have a body lift I figured I should solve the gap problem before I had it. To do this I cut the frame rails back, had 1/4" plate welded to the mounting points, and just mounted it on the plate to where it looked flush. Also my guy noticed that in a lot of pictures, the Apex mounts a little pointed downwards, so we adjusted it a few degrees up and it looks perfect in my opinion.

Thanks for posting how you raised the bumper to match the body lift. Are the 1/4" plates you have welded to your frame the ones that Allpro provided? Do you remember about how many inches you had to cut the frame back? Trying to get an idea of how the installation compares to other bumpers like Addicted.

No problem. All-Pro didn't build the bumper for a body lift, so I didn't end up using the frame rail caps they supplied. The steel I used for the mounts was just some 1/4" plate laying around. And for the frame, I had to cut it back around 3-4", it becomes obvious when you're doing it because it's as far back as you can go without messing with body mount or the part of the frame that extends out (for mounting the original bumper).

Alright I guess it's time I give another update. Here's the surprise: GLASS! I needed new fenders so I decided why not, they'll help clear the 315s better. Matt, from SRQ Fab, cut me a sweet deal on some nice McNeil Racing fenders, I haven't actually mounted them up yet, but they look like they fit like a glove. All I've done is cut the vents out and thrown in some gutter mesh from home depot (yeah yeah don't hate, I think they look cool).

I was going to ask you what your hub to fender measurements were up front, but it looks like that might be hard to do... That, and when you put your glass flares on, that will be a totally different ballpark. Looks good man. I was trying to get an idea how much lift and pre-load you are running up front on your Kings.

That's the thing, I'm still undecided on my Kings. If I set the ride height so I'm not raked, it looks like I'll be sitting at like a degree positive in camber, so I'm not sure what I should adjust them to.
