Question about 4Runner KEYS

Yes, it certainly did, but now I'm wondering if I really needed a chipped key... I guess I'll get one cut and try it!

Do you have Limited or SR5? What year?

Can't help you out on the chipped vs non chipped keys, but I can tell you this - Me and my wife each have a spare ignition key for our 4Runners (I drive a '02 and she drives an '01) and both these spare keys are just bare metal keys. Similar looking to what the key to your house looks like. Definitely no chip in either of these keys and they start our 4Runners just fine.

That's interesting. My 2002 limited has to have a chipped key. I had mine cut and tried to start it just for fun...no start. I programmed it and then it worked.

Looks to me like the Limited has to have a chip, SR5 or Sport does not. I'm going to test it out, though, "just for fun".

That's what I'm guessing since neither my Sport, nor my wife's SR5 needs a chipped key.

I called Hoover Toyota and they said they couldn't cut me a "Toyota Logo" key for me since my key that I currently have is completely metal and doesn't have a chip. They would just have to cut regular keys with not logo...hmm....

That's odd...call Serra Toy and ask to speak w/ Charlotte and see if she tells you the same thing...

I know it's a terrible cell phone pic (yeah, I need a new phone), but here's a photo of what my non-chipped oem key looks like:

my 99 limited has the same non chipped key. as well as the 2000 sr5 i just took back which was non chipped as well but the solid steel on like the op described.

Rockslide, YOU were right! I called Charlotte and she said they have the non-chipped Toyota logo'd keys for $11 and they don't charge to cut them or anything....so I am headed out early today to go get some keys.. :dancin:

Thanks!!

Now I just need to figure out how to CLEAR the codes from my fiance's Rav4 from the lock/unlock remote...everytime I unlock my 4Runner or lock it, it does the same to her Rav4....haha...I didn't clear it before I programmed mine into it....

Any ideas?

lol, that's a first. No I don't know how to clear it. If no one here does, ask Charlotte, I'm sure she could tell you. She knows Toyotas in & out!

I will ask her next time I go out there...they only had 1 Toyota key...drove 30 minutes out there...blah.

I am sure I can find the codes to erase the remote and then just reprogram it.
