Question about 4th-gen 4R? Is there a such thing as....

Hello all, I wanted to see if anybody owns or knows if there is a 05-06 Sport V8
4wd with NO sunroof. I know the sr5 can be bought w/o one. And I can't find one for sale anywhere. I just can't fit well in a 4th gen with a sunroof, no matter how many times I move seat. I'm 6'4" with most of my height in my body. My inseam is only 32". I have owned 2nd and 3rd gen and have fit fine. I bought a 08 FJ and had lot of head room, but couldn't see any street lights. Just thought I would ask you fine wisdom. Thanks.

I don't think you will find one, most Sport Editions sold in the NE had the Premium Package (Sunroof, Hitch, Rear Wing w/LED + couple other things). When I was buying mine all the dealers in the New York area had were sport edition's of different colors with the same exact options. The only difference was the JBL radio, that was available too.

I am in the same boat as you 6'3'' and I have developed what I call the "sunroof lean" from the last 2 4Runners. Keeping my head in the sunroof opening to gain room.

Ha. Ya, I just test drove one again, just to make sure and I found myself doing the same thing with my head in the sunroof.

I am at 6'3" and a half, if you will, haha. And I keep my head in the little opening for the sunroof also but it's really not that bad. I have put 52k miles on mine in 2 years also and it still hasn't really bothered me that bad. I would just wing it because the sunroof is really nice on sunny days and offroad sometimes.(no mud)

Im going to drive a '05 SR5 v8 with no moonroof today and see if it really helps at all. Maybe I'll have to deal with the sunroof thing if I really want the Sport (whcih i do). If I get the Sr5 I'm missing out on Xreas( Which is the Big reason I want the Sport),Heated mirrors, Water repellent Seats. Is there anything esle? Also I HATE the crome all over the Sr5.

Totally agree about the chrome all over the SR5's; Were you thinking about ever lifting the 4R in the future? If so, I would not say that I wanted the Sport because of the suspension. Yes, the suspension is great on the road, yes it is not so great off-road; but you do get bigger brakes with the sport, hood scoop, water-repellant seats and the smoked look of the chrome in the headlights.

I can't comment on V8 vs. V6 sunroof availability, but I did drive an '06 Sport 2WD V6 without a sunroof about a month ago.

There are sports out there with no sunroof... I very nearly bought an 2007 V6 last weekend. The sunroof was actually the sticking point for me... even though I'm 6'1" and I know the roof drops headroom I still didn't want to be without it...

Thank guys for the great info. I may do a small lift so the sport will
still do for me. I'll be using this rig for "sweep" at the New England Forest Rally, so I won't want it to tall because I'll be going 70ish mpg on logging roads. I think I may be able to mod the seat bracket enough to down it in the rear to make a sunroof work. I have some pics I will share.
And thanks for letting me know they exist! I just can't find one anywhere close to me. Even the Sr5 earlier today that the dealer said had no moonroof,did indeed have one when I got there. >.<

My brother from another mother, I am exactly the same dimensions. The guys that say, “I'm 6'3" and I fit with a sunroof” have no idea what we deal with. I actually barely fit in my 2006 SR5 4wd without a sunroof and the seat is at the lowest setting with the seat back tilted back a little more I like but I love my 4Runner.

I live in Minneapolis, I was told that all Gen 4s in the Chicago regional are optioned with sunroofs. When I was looking for a 4Runner in June 2009 I only found 2 non sunroof within 150 miles of here and I bought one of them. It was originally sold in New Mexico, I understand that the Denver & Phoenix regions have more non sunroof 4Runners. Since you are in Maine maybe NC, SC or GA will have a better selection. Northerners must like sunroofs. Good luck.

I don't think you realize that the Sport & Limited's power seats allow you more articulation to lower the seat more. The SR5 will force you up higher with out the option to lower the rear of the seat down. This feature will lower you down the 2-3 critical inches to get you lower to the floor to just fit.

The sunroof does lower the headroom, but the power seat lowers your body nearly the same amount making it about equal between the 2 (no sunroof, manual seat & sunroof, power seat).

Hmmmm, I test drove a 07 limited v8 and could get it much better. I even asked the dealership to look just to make sure I wasn't doing somthing wrong. :shrug:

I thought only the trail (09) had the water repellent seats? I can't find anything that says the sport editions has them in the brochures. It'd be great if I do have them and just never knew it.

HMmm. Maybe I am wrong then. I did read it somewhere. Ill see if I can find it again. I may go look at a limited 05 v8 today. There is a sports v8 in mass but they didn't even want to look at my trade, which is a 08 Subaru Forester Sports XT with 24k and spotless.

I'm not sure that's completely correct. My 07 SR5 allows me to bottom out the rear of the seat. I'm 6'5" and thank God I don't have a sun roof because I'd have a permanent crick in my neck. 6'5" and I have a little head room to spare... now leg room, that's a completely different issue. An issue I still plan to address.
