Question about greasing my drive shaft

Went to grease my drive shaft today and when I got to the 8th and final zerk fitting, the one for the rear spider bearing, I noticed it move a bit when I was putting the grease gun on. I wiggled it a bit more with my finger and the fitting came out with another small piece that the fitting screws into. I put it back in but it doesnt seem to want to stay there. Can anyone tell me what this piece is and how it is supposed to fit into the bearing? Thanks in advance.

Looks like it just a press in zerk
I’m more of a screw in tan myself
So this doesn’t happen
I did buy a press in zerk assortment from tractor supply not that long ago
Or I’m sure your local Napa could help

There are self taping zercs. I doubt a press in will work anymore.

Well the zerk is a screw in type. This is the piece that came out along with the zerk screwed into it. Maybe this piece is a "press in" type? No clue.

Nice - thanks - me, too. I was under there yesterday and struggled to find even 3 of them at first glance.

I have a raging squeal when in motion I'm trying to track down and just trying to do a bunch of neglected stuff along that path.

On another note, do the rear brakes emit any 'warning' noise when the shoes are done? I haven't had drum brakes in a minute - even my 1970 FIAT Spider had 4 wheel discs....

The rear drum shoes have squealers. With the windows down at low speeds you should be able to hear it, when you apply brakes the squeal should stop.
