Question about JDM

Curious, does JDM simply sell motors they pull from salvaged cars or do they rebuild them at all? As a buyer, how do you know how many miles are on the JDM motor and its condition?

No JDM motors are not rebuilt. They are low mileage used motors. Any JDM motor you buy will have at the most 60k on it. In Japan they are required to replace the motor or get a new car at 60k miles, its emissions laws over there, that all i know so dont hate. As a plus we get a large amount of very low mile used motors. All good JDM engine importers and sellers will do a compression test to check the motor before selling and most typicall come with some warranty. Can you get a bad motor yes i have seen it before but i have seen and installed many more good engines. Imo a JDM engine is a way better choice than a local wrecker motor.

When I got my jdm motor. I went to the warehouse that they stock the motors. They had about 10-20 5vzfe motors. I picked out the cleanest looking one, and when got it home noticed that the timing belt was done around 70-80k miles. I'm sure they had ones with less miles, but id take a clener engine vs one that has sludge and less miles. Either way, I had the oil pan of and replaced a bunch of parts. Also this jdm place gave a 3 month warranty and the engine came with harness, ac compressor, starter, fan ect.

I've noticed that the jdm 5vzfe has a sticker that says to change the timing belt every 100,000km. Vs our 100k miles
