Question about rock sliders

Hey guys, sorry if this is a dumb question but I was wondering if I get those weld on rock sliders, will I be able to remove them by grinding them off? Or will they warp the frame? Also I know for sure I don't want to drill on the frame just in case I want to remove them

Can anyone clear this up for me please, thanks

You're not going to be able to get them clean off the frame with a grinder. Your best bet would be to cut the slider off at the mounting plate with a torch and leave the mounting plate on the frame.
 
I have one question.

If you have the mentality of "you never know", why wouldn't you go with the bolt on style? It answers your question and still provides the durability and strength you're seeking.

I think there is a bit of mis information in your post. weld on and bolt on typically other a great difference in strength and durability.

To the OP You must ask youself, if you plan to have second thoughts, why even get them. Not sure why you would be taking parts on and off the truck.

he could be taking them off to repaint them. Thats why I made mine removable. The way that I designed the mount for mine also puts all the load on the welds and not the bolts so I didn't sacrifice any strength.
 
I had to cut mine of to fix little bit of rust on the rocker panel. I just cut it of with a good sawzaw blade as close as possible to the frame or plate. Then used a grinder to grind down the excessive metal till it was flat. And you couldn't even tell after words.

I wouldn't drill holes into my frame. Just my opinion though. You could weld a tube that sticks out and then slide the rock sliders onto the tube then drill a hole and put a bolt through it.

Cutting them off with a grinder or sawzall close to the frame and taking a flap disc to grind everything flat would be fine. I've done it. If you welded on a flat plate first, you'll have to leave the plate there. Repaint and looks like normal. However, I wouldn't suggest welding in the same spot again in the future.

Not a dumb question at all. I can understand some of the concerns & unknowns regarding modifications that result in "more permanent" changes from the factory layout. Some things that I've considered before I make a decision on installing sliders are:
-adding/removing body lift (don't think I'll ever remove it but also never thought I'd get one either)
-deciding on a style that really catches my attention
-angle of the sliders
-slider to body distance
-weld or bolt on by drilling into the frame

Until I get some of those variables worked out, my highly prized factory running boards will serve as my barrier from getting my door dinged in the parking lot & protecting the body from road debris.

Why couldn't you reweld on the same spot ?

I suppose if you welded a plate to the frame first then it's not as big of a deal but I wouldn't want to weld the same spot directly on the frame. You run th risk of burning through or warping metal in the area.
