Question about the "15" speakers in 2010 Limited.

This might be a silly question, so please forgive me...

I just picked up the 2010 Limited with the Premium JBL / Nav audio system w/ 15 speakers. For the life of me I can not find 15 speakers.. my best effort only came up with 9. Can anyone shed light on this. I checked in the speaker grills to see if Toyota doubled up and only saw 1 speaker per grill. This might sound like a silly question, but it is bugging the heck of me. Other than that, I love this vehicle!

Did you count the tweeters and the center channel one if there is one....

Are there tweeters in the rear pillar like the 4th gen?

I assume there going to be a mid and high in each door - up to 3 on the dash, a sub, and 2 highs in the rear...wait what about party mode, arent there speakers on the trunk door?

Thats about 15 there.

the dash speakers are comprised of a squawker and a tweeter, so that 4 there.

the back doors and the tailgate contain a full range speakers and a tweeter, so thats 8 more.

then you have the subwoofer and the 2 front doors.

however many, it sounds great. The party mode is confusing but I've only pushed the button while driving. One annoyance is that there's no "on/off" light on the party mode button. Just a light red glow.

I believe that link refers to the system that was in the 2004 Limited, among others. I read somewhere that the system in the current Limited has around 660 watts. Not sure if it's true, but it sounds like it, though. The best sounding radio I've ever had in a car!

I am impressed with the JBL system!
Usually that's the first thing I change. In my last 2006 sport ,the week after I bought it had the dash/door panels all apart to install the Scion/Kenwood stereo and changed all the speakers to Infinity Reference separates. It sounded decent.

I had the latter in my 2005 4Runner and thought it sounded OK. I wasn't blown away by it. In comparison, the 13-speaker JBL Synthesis in the Venza is one of the better factory systems I've heard, at least to my tin ears.

I can't speak for any other years, but for 04 there's no comparison. My 4g 2004 Limited w/Nav was very average at best compared to the 5g Limited w/Nav. Bass, mids, highs, separation and sheer power - ALL better than 04. Blows away our 07 Lexus ES350, but that can be done with just about anything!

The newer JBL systems are really good. I love the JBL Synthesis in my Sienna...to me, it sounds better than some of the older Mark Levinson system (e.g. LS430). Remember, there IS a difference between JBL Synthesis and JBL Pro. The Synthesis is found on more expensive models (Sienna, 4runners, Land Cuiser, Avalon), while the Pro is on cheaper models (Corolla, Camry, Prius). However, the Camry JBL system is quite good too.

Blows away our 07 Lexus ES350, but that can be done with just about anything!

If your ES350 has the base system, then yeah, it doesn't take much! The base sound system on the ES350 is much worst than the JBL system in the Camry! I don't understand Lexus on this one...why put in an inferior system on a more expensive luxury car??

I've never understood it either - it's been a big disappointment w/ the Lexus. I've always enjoyed driving it, but I'm used to being pleasantly surprised by Toyota and the Lexus hasn't lived up to that experience.

In the back door and the tail, are the full range and tweeters in the same grill? Unlike the 4th Gen, there is no tweeter grill. This is why I come up short by 4 speakers.

The ML in the LS460 is awesome (and it should be given how much it and the car costs ).

RE: the Lexus audio systems. I've heard similar comments about the non-ML audio in the RX. I guess Lexus figures it's primary customers either don't care about audio or, if they do, are willing to spring for the ML system (which I also heard varies greatly in quality between models).

I thought the current gen Camry's JBL sounded better than the 4th Gen's JBL Synthesis. No matter how much I tweaked it, it just seemed to lack something...

My '04 Camry's JBL system has better (bass) punch than my 4Runner's JBL and it doesn't have a dedicated sub.

The 5th gen is Synthesis. The Camy JBL system is just freakish...freakishly good calibration from factory!! This is why i mentioned it above as being the lone exception to the Synthesis vs. Pro quality. The Corolla JBL Pro system (using same components as Camry JBL) sucks to no end! The 2010 Prius JBL Pro system is decent...halfway b/w Camry and Corolla JBL...but still lags behind the Synthesis found in my Sienna and Avalon.

I will be getting my Black 2010 Trail Edition in about one week. It has the nav stereo. They say there are 15 speakers in 9 locations including the subwoofer. My question is will I be able to play and control my 80 gig Zune with this stereo. I have a ton of music on it. I think it hooks up by USB in the glove box, but I'm not sure if the Zune is compatible? Anyone have any input, no pun intended........

My iPOD works (is controlled) through the NAV via the USB in the glovebox. It also is always charging.
HOWEVER, the control function of the NAV of the iPOD is soooooo slow, and ridiculous, that if you want "Similar" sound, you can use the 1/8th inch audio jack out of the ZUNE, and then you can't use the NAV to control it, you just use the Zunes' own controls, which is way faster, as long as you aren;t fiddling with it and getting distracted on the road. I haven't noticed a difference in sound quality via either method, so it's more about how you want to adjust your music selections. If you just put the NAV on random, connect through the USB, you should be just fine.
