question about the evap vent solenoid

1. is the vent solenoid normal open when the car is off and no power?
2. when i supply power to the vent solenoid and apply vacuum pressure, it build ups pressure and slowly leaks down (bad solenoid)? I know in the picture i have the valcume hose hooked up backwards, i tested it the other way around (right way).

I am no expert but what little I know of evap systems. The vent solonoid is always open and the purge solonoid is closed . The pcm opens and closes the vent and purge solonoids there is a procedure for testing the solonoid in the fsm. hope it helps

Usually if the circuit in the solenoid is stuck or has failed, an EVAP code is triggered. Sometimes, but not for all makers, a high ohm reading can indicate that the solenoid is failed/on its way out. Sometimes just tapping on them can free them/wake them up.

My guess though is that somewhere in the EVAP system there may be a slight vacuum leak, but not large enough to trigger a code. Access to a smoke machine would help here.

Yes, it's an old thread.

My evap soleniod under the hood isn't opening. I've put 12 volts across the ternimals and it reacts. There's 12 volt at the plug but it doesn't activate the solenoid.

Any reason(s)?

Could be a ground issue or a high resistance in the wiring causing an amperage restriction. If you can try to use a test light on the power and ground side of the connector.

What is shown in your picture is the ECM which is located behind the glove box.

I couldn't get to the ECM easily so the blue and white wire at the plug is the B+. I hooked a jumper from the plug to purge valve terminal (B+). I jumped the ground terminal at the purge valve to the car's body. The purge valve activated. The yellow and green go to the ECM and internaly it connects to ground. Do I have a defective ECM?
