question after coilover install

Did you put new bushings on when installing the coilovers? Typically the bushings at the top are squished a lot more. I get a pop when turning sometimes and I'm sure it's my LBJ's and tie rods.

steering rack guide. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/70884-how-replace-steering-rack-guide-pictures.html

look on the rack itself. about under your feet when your sitting inside the vheicle. there should be what looks like a plug for the rack, its ether got a male or female cap. if yours had the male cap like this. you have the bad rack guides and they cause problems when lifting the vehicle.

if you have this one that looks like and alen will fit into, you have the correct style guide.

jack up both sides, keep tires on, on driver side, place hands at 3 and 9 o clock, and shake side to side like your turning the wheel. but check the inner tir rod end.. if its got some play in it and looks bad, it could be your rack guide.

i battled this problem for the past year, saw my rack moving up and down while doing the side to side test and thought my rack was toast.

got my new rack and a month later it started again. so i decided to just replace the rack guides. 3 days later which is now. rack is quiet and no knocks while hitting bumps on that side. i can finally go offroading with ease.

Wrong "C" Clip Setting?

I don't have this front set up on a 4runner, but I do have the (exact?) same setup on my 1st gen tacoma, which should be identical part numbers. I have the front Bilstein 5100 adjustable struts and Eiback 620 coils, which I believe is the same setup you are running. If so, you might be running the struts on the wrong setting. I see from your picture that the lower spring cup and c-clip is on the highest setting, which I believe is incorrect.

When I ordered my setup from Toytec, they specifically stated that the Eibachs on the 5100's had to be run on the lowest setting (0"), which is the bottom "c" clip setting, given the Eibach's give the lift, rather than the strut itself.

Again, not sure if this is exactly true with 4runners, but I believe it is since the 3rd gen runner and 1st gen taco share similiar front end suspension components. Plus that coil looks like it has a ton of preload and the UCA's look extremely stressed from excessive lift.

yeah it came with the c clip on the highest point...kinda figured that was where it was supposed to be...anyone able to confirm this? not doubting you or anything you have a great point just wanna confirm it...

No, I was actually hoping someone else would chime in as well to confirm. Again, I have the setup on a tacoma, so not sure if the same rule applies to 4runners or not. Only reason I caught it was because I've seen this happen to others before when ordering them assembled. Plus, I'm curious to know myself since I might be switching from taco -> 4runner and swapping front suspension over.

Yea it shouldn't be that way, you should have insane lift then... What is your hub to fender distance? Mine is like ~22-23" as I recall with a 3" lift and your setup on the lowest perch. Why that would cause clanking, I have no idea.

you know what guys i think the hawiian guy is correct it makes sense the more i think about it....my truck is rideing like a lowrider a little bouncy....i think its set too high...

anybody do theres like this? is it alright to do it? the install was a pain lol my arms killin me fron using the prybar to get em in...

You are probably hearing the shock top out, the spindle hitting the spring, the top plate, or all 3 of those.

This is what I'm thinking. Way too much preload and excessive lift going on. You'll need to remove them from the vehicle, remove the coils, and move the coil down. To help remove/install them (since its such a pain in the ass) you can place a bottle jack between the upper wheel well and the UCA to help bring the arm down. Be sure to have a friend help hold the bottle jack for safety reasons (I didn't, but wish I did).

I'm sure is will fix your problem. Good luck!
