Question for anyone that installed a reverse cam

Well, 2 questions.
1. How the hell did you get the wiring through that rubber grommet/hose going from the liftgate into the vehicle? My cable has an RCA connector and it's almost pretty much impossible to get it through that grommet. Is it safe to use WD40 on those wires inside the grommet?

2. Where did you run the wires inside the liftgate? I can't really tell where the window slides down and I have a lot of excess cable. I am most likely going to just zip tie them to the factory wiring, but will this make the cables too bulky and in the way of the window?

1. I used an RV slideout lube inside the grommet simply because it was handy. It made a tremendous difference. It went from nearly impossible to piece of cake. If I didn't have that I would suggest using spray silicone. .
2. I attached my cable to the wiring just like you mentioned. I just tried to make it as tight as possible and kept it as far back as possible.

1. On my camera the other end connector - that goes into the unit itself,- is rather slim, so it was easy to push through.

2. You route it along the original wiring as close as possible and zip-tie to it often, otherwise the wire will interfere with the window. Don;t loop any excess wire in the liftgate.

My rear camera came with a disconnect in the wiring that made fishing the cable through the grommet much easier. I too used a little bit of silicone spray and then a coat hanger to pull it through, made it much easier than doing it without.

I ran the wires along the bundle up the left side of the hatch, it was tight fishing it through and then as mentioned, I used zip ties to keep it out of the way of the rear window track to the best of my ability.

1. I used wd40 and also sliced two holes in the grommet along the path to pull the wire through and keep threading it

2. I ran into the unfortunate event of my rear window severing the wires. Secure the wires best you can in front of the window (when liftgate is down) or on top of the window (with liftgate is up)

Hey everyone and sorry for the late reply. Thanks for all the help. I was finally able to get the wiring through the grommet, but it added about an extra day and a lot of frustration to what should have been an easy job.

Now that your done, you can also mount the camera in the spoiler if you have one. I did a write up on it somewhere. Makes for a nice wide view.

Assuming you put it above the license place like I did, carefully lower the rear window before you put the panel back on the inside while keeping a close eye on the cable. The window will snap the video cable if it's not routed properly. Don't ask how I know.

Fishtape with some lubricant works well. A quick shot of wd40 is enough. In the actual door, ziptie it super close. My first cable snapped, so I had to redo it. You cant have any excess.
