HELP NEEDED RE: Backup Camera Installation Nightmare w/ Alpine iLX-x650

Why did I feel compelled to put myself through this horror show? Because I am stupid and can't stop upgrading my 4Runner. And I won't let this !@#$ get the best of me!

Maybe someone knows what I did wrong. Or maybe my HU is defective?

Scenario: Black screen with only guidelines showing when in Reverse or enabling the camera from the menu directly.

― Head unit: Alpine iLX-x650
― Camera: Voxx ACAM4 HD

I've been through 3 cameras troubleshooting.
All connections have been checked, rechecked, then rechecked again. Each section swapped out as I went along.
I even swapped out their RCA cable for one that was double-insulated.

Wired up:

Yellow RCA Video cable connected to Rear Camera RCA of HU.
― red tail connected to an independent piggyback fuse connector to ACC at the fusebox.
― Orange/White trigger wire from HU connected to positive reverse light wire located in the wiring harness next to the fuse box.
Regulator w/ red and black wire that powers the camera connected at hatch.
― red wire connected to red tail (opposite end of RCA) to power camera.
― black wire connected to solid chassis ground.

I have also tried wiring the Orange/White trigger wire to the red tail of the RCA cable at the HU, while on the other end, I connected the red tail of the RCA cable to the positive reverse light wire directly at the taillight.

Putting the car in reverse: Engages camera mode with guidelines but with no video feed.
Manually pressing the camera option: Does the same.

Every video I've watched...
Every diagram I've looked at...
They all say to wire it up either way and it will work fine.

This isn't trigonometry! Does anyone have a blues clue what I am doing wrong?

iLX-x650 has the latest firmware
I am getting 12v at the red tail at the hatch connected to power the camera.

UPDATE 04/25/23

Turns out I DID have it wired correctly.

This was my problem: RCA Harness Cable Connector for ILXW650 Front/Rear/Sub-w/Rear View Camera RCA Cable.
One of the two lead pins for the Rear Camera on the RCA Harness Cable Connector had partially detached.

I just installed this same camera on my 3rd Gen.

First, if you are using the reverse wire to the HU trigger in the dash, you don’t need the red wire on the RCA cable at all. You do need to then send the power from the ACC fuse back to the camera so the camera has power. But it has to either be one or the other, not both.

If your HU has a UI option to see the camera without being triggered, then your camera will need full time power from the ignition fuse.

I’ve just connected the same head unit and rear / front cameras.
I’m trying to run both cameras from the head unit and have the option to have them always on toggling between the two from head unit , but also have the rear camera trigger on reverse

Presently I have the rear camera tapped onto the rear brake light reverse wire.

I would like for both front and rear cameras to have anytime on feature and toggle between the two in alpine radio.

Starting with rear… would I remove red wire tapped into reverse light and run it to the front and connect that to the front red wire from alpine? What about the small red wire coming from yellow/rca on the camera wire? Do I only need to connect one of the red wires?

And then where would the trigger wire go? Tap into reverse wire near dash? I believe it’s an orange/red wire.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated

to get power full time to camera, the red wire pig-tail from the rca, goes directly to the camera itself at the rear, and behind the radio unit, connect that to the red ACC wire in your harness. now for reverse trigger, run another wire from the radio 18 gauge is fine, run a wire down to the driver side kick panel / door sil area. factory wire should be red/yellow on the 4th gen. then wire it back to your radio reverse trigger input. remember to change the polarity of the input to Positive on your radio.
