Question for Black 4runner owners

I just put my first coat of wax on since buying the 4. I used what I normally use, which works great. It is maguiers (sp?) carnuba liquid wax. The black 4's don't seem to have the same paint protective coat as the other colors. I applied the wax, waited about 4 hours, then buffed it out. I had to buff for about 2.5 hours before the wax streaks went away. Is this normal? Could it be the buffing towels I used???

Does anyone recommend the powered buffers??? Which model?

Orbital buffers.

The standard for a power buffer seems to be a Porter-Cable brand random orbital buffer.

The Porter Cable is great for polishing and applying wax but I have not heard as good of reviews for the machine to take polish or wax off. I still do the "taking off" by hand.

What was the air temperature and humidity?

It sounds like the wax wasn't fully dry.

Make sure you don't have too much wax applied and use a microfiber towel to remove it.

I'm using Meguiars NXT Tech wax on my black 04. It looks great and is very easy on and off. I use a PC to put it on and a microfiber towel to take it off. I could probably do the whole thing in about half an hour if I was rushed.

The tempe was about 90-95 and close to zero humidy (as it usually is here). I waited at least 2 hours before removing it. Should I wait longer??? I didn't wait at all on my last car, and it came off smooth. I can't figure it out.

It sounds like it cooked right into the paint. Were you in the sun?

What you can do when you get streaks or hazing is to get a bottle of water with a sprayer and just mist the surface, then polish it out. The water helps to distribute the remaining wax. Another good thing to use is the Griot's Speedshine.

When i do my truck, I use the Porter Cable to apply the polish and wax. I also use it to remove the polish and wax with the microfiber bonnets. Of course it doesn't get 100% of it off but it cuts down on the elbo-time. Once I get the majority of it off, I use my microfiber towels to buff it down. Where I still have a little hazing/streaks, I mist it with a little Speedshine and she is done.

Thanks for the advice Momo. Hazing is the word I was looking for. That's exactly what happened. I wasn't in the sun at all.

The other strange thing is, the first day after the wax, the entire 4R was covered in a layer of unusually small dust particles. I didn't notice the dust before the wax. Is this the same with you, or just AZ conditions?

This all might be just cause I'm use to a silver car (where nothing really shows up dirty). This black beast is tought to keep clean!

It is just the dried wax that is making the dust. After I get done with all the polishing and waxing there is always a dusty layer on my windows and on some of the surfaces. I just run my California Duster over it and she is done.

The problem I have, living in Alabama, is the high humidity. Before I had my garage, it was a pain because I would have ot find a shay area, but because of the humidity, the wa had a hard time setting up. Now that I have my garage, I can control it better since I have AC.
