Question for those with the curt 31367 front hitch

If u have this hitch installed I'd like to ask or see what, if anything, u have installed into the receiver.....
Etrailer.com has "hitch accessories" like a license plate bracket,mini skid shield......I'm asking this because I have one of those Westin bull bars upfront...and although it's paid for itself once that know of while parked in the ghetto streets of NYC. I think I'd rather have a second hitch up front and install "temporary" removable front end protection......I mean the bill bar is useless (its chrome) but it has a clever hidden license plate holder.....but useless nonetheless .... Compared to a front hitch
I think I saw a thread with a salsa red 4runner with a front hitch and winch temporarily installed (cool)
Also I have a rear temporary mounted bumper protector that mounts into the rear hitch.....using a hitch lock so no one steals that...but purchased a Toyota ($8) rubber hitch "cap" and removed that "bar" out of the hitch......and forgot how much nicer the back of the truck looks unobtruscted with these "bumper guards".......help me decide ........

I had the front hitch mounted but had to remove it to fit a Budbuilt hidden winch plate. The two aren't compatible without modifying the hitch and losing two attachment points.

I had a Toyota rubber receiver cover installed on it.

For a stock SR5, I think you require a Curt C31054 hitch. The number you quoted is for the Trail Edition & FJ Cruiser.

Did some research here and all I have to do is remove the plastic air dam at the bottom of the bumper to be able to install the 31367. No?

I have the Curt Mfg. skid shield on my TE and recommend it if you are going to off road with the hitch. It helps protect the hitch in those high approach angle situations. Don't buy the Curt License plate bracket unless you get a hitch extension, otherwise it won't clear the front of the bumper. The only way to use it without the extension would be to insert the bracket so the license is below the hitch receiver, which decrease front bumper ground clearance by about 5".

Every time I see this truck I miss it. Love the Tundra, but wish I could have both :Cry:

I only had to remove the plastic crap under the bumper to run the hitch. I found it extremely useful from pulling trailers out of bad spots to yanking firewood out of washes.

Can I ask you, does it reduce the approach angle at all from your experience? In the pictures it seems like the bumper would hit before the hitch, but since you've actually had it in real life, you would know best

It actually gave me a better approach angle as all the plastic was no longer there. My bumper drug quite a few times and not a scratch on the hitch.

nice pics...I am interested in this front hitch option as well. It looks really tucked up under there. Did you ever attempt to putsomething like the winch mounting plat accessory on there? Its hard to tell if something like that will clear the bumper.

I had an 18" extension for whenever I actually needed to attach something there. You are correct in thinking it is a tight fit.

It is interesting that in the pictures you all posted it appears the hitch stays nice and tucked up there, but when I looked at it online it looks to sit really low. Is this the same hitch?

It's a different hitch that you're looking at...come one man read the title of this thread geez, lol. Just messing with you

I think the one OP used requires you to remove some trim pieces on the SR5/LE trim, hence while it mounts up higher. The one you posted seems like you can keep that all intact, at the cost of clearance.

I think that one is the FJ/Trail Edition version since it's 100% bolt-on for the TE because of the higher clearance bumper.

I definitely like the higher profile one best. I am trying to plan out a new fishing rod holder that is off the front since I no longer have an ARB bumper to drill fishing tubes into. This may be my solution.

That is the SR5 hitch that allows you to keep all that stupid plastic under there. That will most certainly decrease ground clearance and drag on everything off the beaten path. I would highly recommend against that one and go with the TE version and remove the useless plastic.
