The '96-'98 versions are frosted and in '99 Toyota updated to clear lenses with the bulb sitting behind a deflector and the reflecting surface also changed to a diamond cut style. look at a pre '99 and you'll see the diff immediatly.

Thanks Man! but the shape doesn't change, does it?

Thanks Lee!

I'm now hooking up with IPF Japan for one of those IPF Headlight Cover. It's not cheap though. Have you seen one in person? What do you think about that?

According to the website and according to my limited understanding of Japanese, these protectors can

- generate White light like the HID
- increase regular halogen headlight bulb from 2700K to 3800K
- protect your headlights
- increase visibility at night, during fog, rain and snow

Hmmmm, sounds interesting;so what's the cost of a pair? They would probably work real well with my Silverstar bulbs plus protection to boot.

holy crap

i would never spend $270 on something i didnt see working in real life.

let alone ons omething promising more light output. just get fog lights.

Lee, definitely agree! it was a surprise that they accept international order though, so it's a good start for something more applicable.

Eeek!!! That's a bit much so I think I'll just go with the protectors you can get here for around $50/pair.

Yes, those are the Japanese headlight protectors. I can also get them, and they are around that price. EEK.

Also, here are the 96-98 heads vs 99-02:
