Guys, we have quite a winter here in Armenia. Yesterday I went to mountains and some roads are covered with ice. Most of the time I leave 4H and sometimes when there are too much ice car is heavy and slides to the side on some turns. It is pretty neutral slide, not line in RWD car, what I did I just let the gas out and left its VSC to recover from slide which it did. I do not have much experience with 4WD cars, mostly RWD and some FWD. What is the best way to avoid side slides, especially on icy turns. With BMW I did not have much problems because of neutral handling and light weight, it was easy to recover, but I am not so sure how to recover heavy 4Runner. I have 03 V6 SR5.

Best thing you can do for your rig is change out your tires. Get studded winter tires or even some walnut shelled tires.

Actually, I sun Bridgestone Revos. I know it is not a winter or ice tire, but overall I am very satisfied. Will try to pull all winter with Revos, will drive very slow on icy patches, but on a snow tire shows great performance. Car is incredible overall, very satisfied. I was surprised that it is such a great SUV, was considering ML before, but now will stick with Toyota, may be land curser next or new 4runner.

We've had some serious black ice here in Alberta this past week, and I've been running the T4R on stock tires in 4HI, with few problems. The traction control kicks in where appropriate, but I'm finding that the truck's good road feel combined with some decent weight has left me in good shape for the ice.
