question on lift kits from noob

I hope you guys can help. I finally found a local 4Runner that I'm interested in. Only problem is it's lifted. I've never been a big proponent of lifted vehicles because I've heard it's hard on the drivetrain and other components.
This rig is super clean and has a Donahoe stage one. It looks bad ass! I'm just leery of a lifted vehicle although it seems like it's very popular on here.
Any input is appreciated!

My 4Runner is not lifted. I only have experience lowering cars.

With that... The knowledge I have obtained from this forum has taught me this.

1. Depending on the year of the 4Runner, you'll have to be cautious about the UCA (upper control arm) and the CV joints.

2. The UCA on the new model 4Runners needs to be upgraded if you have a lift of 3" or higher... from what I've read and learned.

You could always request to have the vehicle inspected by Toyota at the sellers dime.

If I were you, I would find out what generation the 4Runner is and get into those specific forums and read about lift kits and current lifted vehicles to see what owners are doing/have done to their lifted 4Runners and lessons learned or things to beware of. There are a ton of different setups and depending on use and everything, everyone will have a different opinion about it.

Also, if the current owner is a forum member, get his handle and see if he's posted anything about the vehicle. He may have inadvertently posted something on here about something that is wrong or messed up he didn't disclose. Or he may have an awesome build thread and some great feedback.

Donahoe was the old name before it was purchased and re-vamped into Icon Vehicle Dynamics.

The UCAs can be replaced to correct the alignment on a lifted vehicle. Icon lifts are top of the line, and you'll be surprised at the ride quality. Lifts don't necessarily do damage to the vehicle when done right.

As Dan mentioned Donahue is the old version of Icon. I recall most people being happy with Donahue. I would not be concerned with a truck being lifted on Donahue coilovers.

Thanks again guys! I pulled the trigger on it. Waiting to work finances and titling issues, but I'll post pics later. I was blown away by the driveabilty on the road. Firm, but not harsh at all. Can't wait!
