Questions about FJ springs and shocks

My friend put a lift on an FJ Cruiser so he has the stock shocks and springs. I was looking to swap those out on my 05 2WD 4runner and I was wondering how is it going to ride/look. Am I going to need todo any other modifications with this? Any suggestions would be awesome. Thanks!

i think you will like it. only sit about 1/2-1 in. higher, & ride much better than the stock sr5 suspension.

Is the sr5 suspension and the limited suspension the same? and would I need to get bigger tires or the stock size look fine?

Yes, they are the same as the SR5 for Limiteds without X-REAS or X-REAS with rear air suspension (V8 Limited only). Limiteds with X-REAS are just like the Sport Edition's.

The tire size is up to you, some feel with a lift the wheel looks too small, which it does with a 3" lift. Most upgrade the 17" rim tires to 265/70R17s. The spare in the aforementioned size will fit in the stock location without any issues as well.

I just did this swap. Got about 1/2" of lift. firmer ride , better dampening on shocks IMO. I had Xreas before .

Falls, Did you retain X-reas with the mod, or did you eliminate it? The shocks my friend hooked me up with are not x-reas compatible. He told me that we could just use the coils from the FJ cruiser, but he isn't sure about how to bleed the hydraulic lines to the front struts, since he would have to remove the struts from the truck to safely replace the springs. My friend is a mechanic at a local 4x4 shop, and he recommended that I keep the X-reas system for the performance benefits since my 4runner is 2wd and I will not be driving off road. Now I am leaning more towards a spacer lift. Any thoughts?

You can remove the springs without disconnecting the XREAS shocks. I did it on my own 4Runner without any problems. It's similar to taking a caliper off a the rotor without disconnecting the brake line. There's room to hang it on the side while you work.

cornfed with fj springs?

I have read so many threads about spacer lifts with and without using fj springs, I can't decide if I should do a 3/2 with fj springs all around or a 2/2 with fj springs all around. If I do a 2/2 and use the fj springs then it should take car of the rake right? And of all the threads I did read nobody had xreas and used the fj springs, I do have xreas and would like to keep it ( at least I think I do). Anybody have any suggestions on the perfect combo to run 265/70/17 BFG AT and it still ride good on the road. I will not be doing ANY off-roading unfortunately because my 4r is 2wd.

in my opinion, a 3/2 lift + fj springs will make the 265/70 tires appear too small, & not fill out the wheel wells enough. the whole purpose of doing a 3/2+ is to be able to run much lager tires. like 285s, as far as the 2/2, the rake would still be the same, unless you used the fj springs which will give 1/2-1 in. more lift up front & some say less out back.that would be similar to just a 3/2 without the springs. a 2/1 , with or without the fj springs might be a better choice/look for use with your 265/70/17 tires,
