Questions about lift...

Hello everyone, first post here. Just got a 2008 t4r limited v8 4wd with navi and xreas. I've been a member of tacoma world for a while, with a 2006 trd sport. Traded that in for the 4runner.

Here's the new ride

I'm getting ready to lift. Since I have xreas I'd like to keep it and go with a spacer lift. I'm considering the daystar 2.5/1.5 spacer kit. I don't do any serious offroading, mostly a mall crawler for the wife and kids but we will occasionally go out and climb something for fun or go play in the snow.

I have my concerns because of my experience with the tacoma. I lifted 2 inches in the front and 1 inch in the rear and had 2 problems. First I had driveline vibes that I couldn't cure. Not with carrier bearing drops or axle shims. It drove me nuts. Second I couldn't get a proper alignment without getting UCAs.

So my question is if I go with the daystar 2.5/1.5 kit what can I expect? I've done a fair amount of research and it doesn't look like I'll need UCAs or have problems with vibrations but I just wanna make sure. If those might be an issue I'd rather tone the lift down to a 2/1 or even a budget boost spacer up front only. I already have a set of BFG at ko 265/65/18 and would like a little more clearance without sacrificing ride quality or reliability.

Has anyone with a similar t4r and this type of lift had any issues? Are there any other issues that I need to be aware of?

I have the Daystar 2.5 spacer in the front and my rear air suspension adjusted and have no issues at all.

just throw a Daystar 2.5/1.5 kit on and call it a day.

Congrats on making the jump the the T4R and welcome to the forum! AWDjunkies is right. Just put on a Daystar 2.5/1.5 kit AND AN ALIGNMENT and call it a day. No, you will NOT need UCA's. If you were to lift suspension OVER 3", then you would need UCA's. You should have no issues and will have virtually no change in the "ride" of the vehicle. I would, however, consider wheel spacers if you are going to stick with the OEM wheels.

GOOD LUCK!

Yeah. Came with them. I was shopping for a 4runner for a couple months and then came across this one. It was owned by a rich older lady. Every service is on file with the dealer and showed up on the carfax. It's in amazing shape. The only disappointment is that this navi system doesn't stream Bluetooth music or have the sat radio add on.

Sounds like you found a good clean example to work with.

The DS 2.5/1.5 kit is super popular here. You should be fine with just doing the install and getting it aligned.

Thanks for the advise guys. Installed the daystar 2.5/1.5 lift yesterday and got a perfect alignment today. Rides perfect.

Looks great! That's a nice, clean ride!

Did you take any before/after measurements? Do you know how much lift you got with the Daystar kit?

Any rubbing on those BFGs?

Front was 34" ground to fender before, 37" after. Now it looks like its settled in and should sit at 36.5" although I didn't measure again today.

The rear was 36" before and is 37.5" after.

Looks as though I got the exact advertised lift (2.5 / 1.5).

The BFGs don't rub at all. No axle wrap, drives EXACTLY like it did before. Steers the same, handles the same and no vibrations or other issues. I am really impressed with this lift and would highly recommend it. Installation was super easy. It took me about 4 hours total, no special tools needed.

Just from those pics it doesn't look like you got any lift hardly at all. I think it's because of the rounded flares on the newer models. Beautiful 4R though.

Welcome to the 4R side Bacon! Nice ride and keep an eye on the CV boots as they tend to leak post lift on most 4Rs.

Just remeasured and it settled in just right. 36.5" in the front.

That's interesting that it settled in at 2.5". From most of my searches, it seemed like in the past folks were getting 3" of lift from the front spacer which is 1.5" thick. So you got about 1.67x the spacer thickness. When I installed the 1" budget booster spacer, I got about 1.75" of lift (1.75x the spacer thickness).

Also, it could be with the V8 you get a little more compression and it settles more due to the extra weight. I never really found good, recent info from folks about how much lift they obtained from the Daystar kit.

This.
Options and accessories make a difference when it comes to lifts. That's why you need stiffer springs when adding a steel bumper, winch etc.

With a Tacoma for example by using 5100s you can get the advertised .85 inches on the first setting with a 4wd dbl cab where a prerunner access cab might get more like an inch to an inch and a quarter.

Lift manufacturers always advertise the minimum amount of lift to protect themselves. No one will ***** about getting too much lift.

My 4runner is about as close to "fully loaded" as they come (v8 4wd limited etc.). So I'm sure that's why I got the exact 2.5/1.5 as advertised. Lighter 4runners will likely see more lift.
