Questions About Measuring Pre-13WL Install

So I was taking a peek into my hub area one day and noticed that I only have about 3-4 cm. between my rim and calipers and I want to upgrade to the 13WL 231mm brakes. I have a 1.5" wheel spacer all around and am I thinking incorrect when I see a bigger caliper? Will it sit flush to my rotors and not stick out much further than our factory calipers?

Just wondering. I might go buy a 13WL and just toy with it to see if it fits.

If you're able to find the back-spacing of your current wheels, and the backspacing of the "5-star" OEM wheels, you would be able to determine if what you have fits with/without your spacers since the "5-starts" fit without any spacers. I went with the 199mm 13WE brakes since I knew my current wheels wouldn't have fit over them.

You may or may not have seen this, but throughout it members ask and find out which aftermarket wheels fit over the 231mm brakes. Might find yours mentioned within it.

Need the rim specs to tell you yes or no, but if you want piece of mind you can come try a rim over mine to see how they "fit". I've already install 231's. You wouldnt be able to drive it since I'm not lifted but it should bolt up.

Thats a pretty good idea. Also, would you do the swap all over again? Is it worth it to upgrade to the 231's?

WHEEL SPECS:
BOLT PATTERN: 6 Lug (6 x 5.5") (Duh..)
DIMENSIONS: 16" x 8"
OFFSET: -5 MM.
BACKSPACING: 4.25"

Ehh... its hard to tell with those specs, it really depends on how the faces come to meet the hubs moreso.

And did I read that right that you are running 1.5" spacers with rims with -5 offset?! or is that your final offest with spacers?

I have 17x7 ET30 Tacos rims with 1.25" spacers leaving me with ~-8 Offset and it clears fine. I know the stock dual trispokes (16x7 ET15) clear with a little bit of "hand working" the back of the spokes to clear the edge of the caliper, or you can get a spacer to fix that.

I'm running a completely stock Runner and have had an emergency stop with these puppies, it was impressive. Also the piece of mind of no warped rotors is nice. BUT I had warped rotors and my pads were getting low so I just bit the bullet and did it write the first time. I even went to SS brake lines.

I would do it again, but you'll get mixed reviews of those who wouldnt. I tow pretty often, and I HATE warping rotors

I'd try NAPA calipers over the ones I got though from BAP GEON. I had to take one back due to a seal leaking and the brake fluid corroded a bit of my rim finish.

I'd have to mirror Robb's feelings about the brake upgrade. I'm speaking from the 199mm brake standpoint though. I really do enjoy the peace of mind knowing that I have upgraded, larger, and new brakes (along with all of the obviously added benefits of having larger brakes). As well as knowing I'd have to try pretty hard to warp the new rotors since they were considerably larger in thickness, vents, and size. I also did my upgrade when I was already in need of new rotors (the original rotors had re-warped on the test drive after having them turned four months ago) and pads (original pads were getting low and also upgraded to ceramic) so my costs were also just slightly higher than what they already would've been with doing the basic maintenance.

I chose the 199mm brakes because I have the stock "split 3's" that Robb mentioned and I didn't like the idea of having to grind away some of the interior of my wheel or the outer edge of the caliper to allow it all to fit together again. And also because I don't tow very much but when I do it's nice to know that I have the larger brakes to assist. I also would definitely do it over again.

robb1887: -5MM is the offset of the rim itself. My 1.5" wheel spacers are additional ;)
I know...
