Hello,
If anyone has any questions for a Toyota salesman let me know. I am here to "try" to answer any questions.

I am a fellow 4runner owner (8666 is the model code for a 4runner sport 4x4 v6) and I also own another Toyota.

Hi. Got a question for you...

Do the dealers in Wisconsin pre-order the 07 4Runner Limiteds with air level suspension and XReas added as an option or do you have to "special order" them? Can't find any here in so. cal.
If you do, how much is shipping here to So. Cal.? Any regulations on purchasing from non-resident state?

Also, any idea on changes to the 2008's? hehe, I'm sure you've been asked this a million times. The response I got from Toyota Motor Corp. was the tenantive announcement schedule is in August.

Actually, I have a few questions, but it is not for the 4Runner. I hope that is alright.

I have been looking to get a car to replace my 92 Honda Accord Wagon and I was looking at the new RAV4. RAV4's are new to me, I have no idea what the salesman says it true or not.

1.) Salesman says the RAV4 is a true SUV since it has a ladder frame. I thought it was a uni-body???

2.) I asked about the steering, being electroinc steering or whatever. It says it is the normal rack and pinion.

3.) Salesman says the Sport model comes with alloys and the JBL stereo, and it has blue tooth, like I should know what that is. It looks to me that the radio is still a $800 option on the Sport model. He had no book to go by, kind of wierd. He also says with the bluetooth you can use the radio to make a cell phone call. Do I hook up my phone to the car and use it??? and can my Wife use her phone which is from another phone company??? Also, I find the standard 16 inch steel wheels were really cheesy. I asked how the 17 inch steel wheels looked and he showed me a Highlander wheel and said it looked like that, which did look good, but I don't trust him.

I hope it is alright to ask about a non 4Runner question. By the way, one option for me is to buy another late model 3rd generation 4Runner and I am truly shocked at the prices of a used 2000 or 2001 4Runner.

Oh yeah, one more question: 4.) Do you know when the 2008 Highlander is coming out? I heard this Summer, do you know? Another option for me is to get the end of the Highlanders 1st generation models when the new ones are coming in for a hopefully better price. Sorry about the non-4Runner questions.

1. Your salesman is an idiot. Geez, where do they come up with this stuff?!! It is unibody as you suspected. But, like all unibody SUV these days, it does have semi-boxed rails and crossmembers welded to the unibody for additional support/bracing. Many times, these support braces form subframes for the suspension. With body-on-frame SUVs, the body is placed on the frame via body mounts...no welding between body and frame.

2. I would look in the brochure which also should give you info on your 17" rims appearance. Or check out Toyota website (http://www.toyota.com/rav4/exterior.html).

3. Bluetooth technology: http://www.bluetooth.com/bluetooth/

Basically, from my understanding, IF you have a bluetooth phone, you can program the radio/NAVI unit in the car to download your phone's phonebook. From there if a call comes in, you can read the caller ID on the NAVI screen or you can select the person to call from the selections (downloaded from your phone) on the NAVI screen. You must have a bluetooth phone to do all this, which is a feature on most modern cellphones from any cell phone/service provider. It's a cool feature in modern cars.

As for the 1st gen Highlander, i highly recommend it. My wife LOVES her SUV. It is roomy, smooth, very safe, high quality interior, and very quiet. BTW, our 2006 Highlander V6 2wd has side curtain airbags, privacy glass, tow package, steering wheel audio controls, JBL single-disc audio system, driver power seat, DRLs, & front window tints...and we got it for $27,500 out-the-door price with 2.9% APR x 5 years. I am sure that you can get a better deal these days because the end is near and the competition has caught up (& surpass). For 2007, all Highlanders come with side-curtain airbags. I highly recommend the tow package because you get tranny cooler, bigger alternator, upgraded radiator, tow prep, etc.. Highlander's 5-speed tranny is NOT it's strongest point...therefore, the cooler can only help with it's durability. JBL audio system is OK...not worth it IMHO. Reliability after 25k miles has been perfect...not a single complaint nor issue.

Yeah, you do need a BT phone. From what i hear, it is very easy to setup if you have a BT phone and the NAVI unit in your new car.

Highlander is pretty boring to drive...but it's very comfy. The RAV4 is definitely a much sportier drive, but it's interior quality is not as good and not as big (wide). And i feel as if the sheetmetal maybe thinner on the RAV4...could be my imagination.

On a side note, i "upgraded" a rental car to a RAV-4 and was not impressed with the build or ride quality. Was glad to come back and get in the 4runner.

I actaully did a locate order on such a vehicle. there was 1 in the entire "chicago" region... It's definately not a typical build..

As far as shipping, not too sure as i've never gotten this request before, the only requirement for out of state purchases is that the buyer is responsible for title/license and state/county sales tax in the county of registration.

Are you asking if the 4runner has the newer electric power steering system like the yaris and hybrids?

3. Bluetooth basically turns your stereo system into the earpiece that so many people use. When you get a call the stereo mutes and you hear a ringing thru the stereo, you answer the call by a steering wheel mounted button.

As far as I am aware bluetooth is only available on 4runners with the navigation system.

4. I have heard the 08 Highlanders are due early fall.... Still unibody construction though!

It is called electric steering. I have no idea what that means. Here is a quote from one of the many reviews I have read.

I'm going to take a guess. If it's anything like the new Lexus cars, then the pump is driven by a motor rather than mechanically by the engine.

The RAV doesn't come with the navigation system but it has an optional headunit that supports Bluetooth. Like the Camry and Tundra, there is a Bluetooth option available without nav.

OK, that makes sense. Instead of a belt running the power steering motor, it uses electricity. So, it still is rack and pinion steering, but it has a differently power steering.

I remember when we did not have power steering, power brakes, power windows or air conditioning.
