Questions regarding light bar install...

I've decided that my first real mod on my new 4Runner is going to be a 40" light bar. I have a bajarack utility rack, so I'm about to purchase this mount and mount it like fargo4x4 did.

1. I went to my local 4wheelparts shop and they wanted to charge me $550 for the install...I was blown away. Called a few shops around the area and got quoted anywhere from $150-250. What is a fair price to pay for a light bar install?

2. The last place I called mentioned that if I mounted the light bar myself and just left the wiring to them, that they'd only charge me $60...is it worth it to do that?

3. What is the, per say, "safest" way to have them wire it? One guy mentioned that I had a bunch of options, but did say one required drilling a hole through the roof...not sure I want to start drilling holes in my brand new car quite yet :nono:

4. Looking to buy a light bar on amazon...any recommendations below $200?

5. Probably a stupid question but just making sure...none of this will void the factory warranty, right?

Most are going to tell you to search the forums for your answers but I'll help with some quick answers to your questions.

1. If they are charging you $550 for the install I am hoping the install includes the light bar and a hooker for you while you wait for them to install it. That is an insane amount for a simple install.

2. I think the question is are you willing to pay that if you don't want to wire it yourself? Just make sure they are reputable place and they aren't going to hack your wires up.

3. I would just run the wires down the either side of the windshield and into the engine bay. I wouldn't drill any holes as that can lead to many problems down the road.

4. I have a Opt7 32" behind the grill. Mine is mostly for cosmetic as I do not off road so no need for crazy expensive lights. The light is pretty good for the price. Many others on the forum uses them as well.

5. No it will not void your warranty.

I am too a new 4Runner owner as well and I was hesitant at first to do but after spending some time reading and researching and youtube, I eventually figured stuff out on my own and have no problem ripping apart paneling and what not now. I would say save yourself the trouble and do it yourself. If you screw up, it'll be your fault and you'll know what you did wrong but when you finish it'll all be worth in the end and nothing better than the satisfaction of doing something yourself!

Haven't had a chance to install it yet. I have a 22inch OPT7 behind my bumper grill and it is not bad. I rarely use it, so it is mainly there for cosmetics but the build and price was worth it IMO.

As stated, the Air On Board are the best option, not cheap but they fit. Depending on the light bar you buy, it should come with a wiring harness and everything you need. If you have questions PM [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION] :snacker:
