Quick 5spd swap question

Well with the trans problems I'm having I've decided it'd be the perfect time to just do the old 5 spd swap. That being said I got a guy with a trans, transfer case and pedal setup for $350. He guarantees his used transmissions and said if I put it in and it's not good he'd either give me another or rebuild it for another $300. The thing I need to know is will a W56 or a W52 both work. He said he knows he's got a W52 on hand but thinks he'd have to do some searching for a W56 which he said is for an EFI vehicle which my 4runner is. I know I'm going to have to do a bunch of mods to the wiring anyway which doesn't bother me so I just need to know if either of them are fine to use.

Ok well that clears that up. Is there 2 different transmissions for EFI and Carbed motors?

Yup, more than two. There were a bunch of different L and G series manuals transmissions on the 22R depending on year. The 22RE only ever saw the W56 and the G58. W56 is the one you want, from a fuel injected four cylinder pickup or 4Runner, 1985 to 1995, with manual hubs(trucks with ADD got the G58, I believe).

Also, there's 2 styles of W56's, one for a forward shift t-case and one for a top shift t-case.
