Quick? 884

I am getting some 884's installed today with 5100 and wondering if I should set the 5100 at 0 or .85"? It is a 2004 V6 and I will be putting a 1.5" spacer in rear. Just wanting it to ride pretty level and will be installing 285's.

Any input will help greatly before they start.

since you have a v6 id say put it at 0. 884's provide about 2.5 inches of lift, but in reality most people see more than that. if you feel like its not high enough, its easy enough to add a top plate spacer or move the spring perch up
 
Thanks Ethan, thats more what I was looking for. I know some say gained 2" and some say 3". If it is 2.5 to 3 I would be happy.

the coil specs show you'll gain about 1.58" from the coil springs alone IF both were brand new installed using the exact same shock. Anything gained over 1.58" isn't necessarily a "lift" it's just getting you back to where you were when it left the assembly line (overcome years of use/sag), and maybe a potential "lift" caused by upgrading to the 5100's even on the zero setting. Not sure if anyone has compared a 5100 on the 0 setting to a stock shock to see if there are measurement differences from seats to perch and mounting points... etc.

numbers don't lie, so while you may gain 2.5-3" of 'perceived lift' from what was installed previously, it's more likely 1.5-2" from the measurements when it left the factory floor brand new... numbers/specs don't lie, measurements are time dependent especially with suspension components.

I was about to type this same thing in that chart thread... You can't assume a 1.58" lift with the OME 884 just because they measure out to be that much longer then the Stock springs. As you point out there are so many other variables like spring rate, material, hardness, etc.. From what I've read the 884 typically yields around 2.5" of lift but again as you point out that number may be deceiving and as the new springs break in and settle, the overall lift may not be as much as when first installed.

The more I read, the more I come to realize that any lift is a crap shoot. You will never really know exactly how your rig will handle the change until you actually do it.

I'm not sure what the OP is trying to achieve height wise but I would be inclined to install them with the 5100's set to 0 and see what you get? That "should" get you pretty close to the 2.5/1.5 light which "usually" levels most t4r's out.

I currently have 5100s set at .85 with OME 884s, I'm guessing that I'm around 3.25-3.5 total. IDK it rides well, but I'm debating if I should drop the perch down to 0 on the 5100s. [MENTION=63543]CrimsonCountry[/MENTION] might know more than me, he had my setup before I bought it from another member.
 
From my experience running the exact same setup and the fact that you want a smaller lift, I would say go with the "0" setting. I think the second setting, or .75", would give you more lift than you want considering you're only running the 1.5" spacer in the rear. However, as always, YMMV. Let us know how it turns out.

Please post your results as I am curious to read how much lift you get from the 884's? The information I've seen for them is all over the map.

ARB USA claims they are only good for ~1" on the stock weight front end (not sure if they are talking V6 or V8?) but most other threads I've read seem to indicate 2-2.5" of lift
 
So I got the 884's installed and gained close to 3". Very happy with the ride so far.

on the zero setting, right?
same wheels/tires as before the suspension swap when measured?
how many miles on the old front suspension you removed?

congrats btw! jealous... itching to get my lift installed...

Same questions? Where did you measure from? It might be more helpful to know the measurement from the middle of the center cap of the wheel to the top of the fender opening? That takes the wheel size out of it.

Assuming you did get 3" that's pretty funny considering OME considers the 884's a 1" lift spring
 
I plan to do some detailed measurements during my install since I have a similar setup... I believe the 5100's on the zero setting add at least an inch themselves but I need to confirm this during my install. If the 884's were installed on the stock shocks I think one would see a 1.5" lift all other things equal since they have a 1.58" longer free length and less installed preload sag due to a higher spring rate.

Might be a little higher now and settle out a little but I am not thinking I will be a less then 2.5" for front lift. The ride is very smooth so far and sit level with the 1.5" spacer in the rear for now. The orig had 160K so they might have been getting a little sag.

id get the matching 5100's, the ride is much improved over stock
 
i agree, if you have 5100 up front use em for the rear also, on a side note, to spite what ARB states, most sites (like this) will advertise the 884 as a 2-3 lift, Front OME Lift Coils

billies (w or w/o remote res), icon 2.0's, or Sway a ways are the options that come to mind...
you could do an entire sway a way rear end coils (dump the spacers) and shocks...
