Quick advice, pls: 1997 Toyota 4Runner, 4wd, locking rear differential

I found a 1997 4Runner with 4wd and the factory locking rear differential. Second or third owner, wholesale from Carmax. Some records. Timing belt "appears to be fine." Black/tan. Some interior/exterior wear. 150K.

I haven't seen or driven it yet. Your advice would be much appreciated.

Rust on the frame
CV Boots Leaking
Leaking rear differential
Sunroof Leaks

I would budget for the Timing Belt/Water Pump right away if it has not been done. Chances are since it's the 3rd owner and you will be the 4th that it has not been done. You will probably also need to replace the Balljoints/Inner/Outer Tie Rods to start. Also a new radiator if it has not been replaced. These are the most common maintenence items I have seen from browsing this forum. Plan to spend about 800 bucks doing these and a few other items. If you can get copies of the service records this would really help to make the decision, although at 150k there are a lot of major items that will need to be addressed.

If we are being critical you really don't need to replace a bunch of stuff, many members put off the timing belt till close to 200k, you can replace the suspension if you like, but you really don't have to do much, everyone will want you to change the radiator, timing belt and ball joints, and tranny fluid, but it is all a huge hype for some problems that can occur, now it is best to change these, but by no means to you need to rush out and do them, you can put it off fairly safely for another 30-40k miles.

Brakes on the other hand, those you should always change if they are due!
