Quick and dirty brake upgrade question.

I know, I KNOW the whole brake upgrade thing has been documented to death! But, I looked and didn't see a cut and dry answer to my questions.

1. I have a 2000 2wd Limited with the five spoke wheels. Will those wheels fit the 213mm calipers? I've read threads about the tri-clops not fitting and some other wheels fitting, but I haven't seen the five spoke specifically discussed.

2. I am planning on ordering the PowerStop kit with calipers, rotors and pads complete. The part number is KC2324. It appears to be a good deal and has almost everything I need. I searched for the kit for a 2005 Tundra, so it should have the more desirable 213 calipers, right?

5-star wheels will fit with no modifications needed. I ordered Power Stop calipers to compliment the other parts I have and they are indeed the 13WL 213mm calipers.

For future reference on wheel compatibility with the TBU, check the last part of post #3 in this thread. Also, keep in mind that your stock spare will not fit over the larger calipers. If you don't get a used wheel like the ones you have (it will fit in the spare location) and you get a flat on the front, you will have to move a wheel from the rear to the front and use the stock spare in the rear.

Remember you just have to find a Toyota 16" rim that will fit, this includes the 5 star you have along with the 5 star rims that came on '01-'04 Tacomas, Tundras & Sequoias which can be found in abundance.

I know that is a nice all in 1 kit, but I'd rethink the drilled and slotted rotors. Unless the vents are cast, then you end up susceptible to cracking, especially under heavy heat load.

You can do the conversion for less than that kit by going piecemeal, so it's doable without using the kit for sure.

Amazon says that link doesnt fit your 2000 runner. I would double check.

I have the same wheels for my 231mm calipers and yes they fit. But i dont know if they will fit your power stop upgrade kit.

Yeah Amazon doesn't know of the mod (the calipers are larger and the rotors are thicker) so it won't know it's compatible. If you ask any parts store they would also say it's not compatible.

I just told the guy at the counter I was buying for a 2005 4.7L 4x4 Tundra and worked just fine. He even commented on how great of a truck that is and I just nodded my head in agreement :wink2:

Do a quality check first - Not the best QC on the calipers

Did the entire upgrade a while ago. couple of things...

• Power Stop will not accept your OEM 2001 calipers for an exchange. (I Talked to them)

• Check to ensure your brass brake line fitting for the flared line is installed. Mine was missing and leaked like a you know what when I hooked up the brake line. Extracted one from the original caliper. Thought I screwed up the brake line.

• Check the bleeder screw. Mine was bent. ended up buying a matched set from O...O ..O'Reilly's.

Their QC leaves a lot to be desired. Fingers crossed they last and perform OK. so far so good...
