Quick change oil shop broke my airbox lid.

Went to a quick change oil shop before heading out thanksgiving... they changed the oil and everything seemed fine when I drove off. But an hour later I noticed a low whistling noise coming from the engine compartment and under further inspection the air filter cover was open, and I noticed that they had broken off tabs to hold the clips to the airbox. Called them and they apologized and said they would fix it.... a couple zip ties later it was closed, but I still need a cover to the airbox.

Does anyone have a lid to the stock air filter for 2007 4.7 v8?

This doesn't seem like your responsibility. This is on their shoulders to find you one.

Agreed, and they are trying there best but dealership want’s $800 for an entire new assembly which is ridiculous.

But is completely their problem and you should feel no obligation to alleviate their financial burden. If they don't want to pay out, hire competent people or ask the owner.

Yeah, I refuse to use a quick lube shop anymore. They like to break things so they can sell a replacement. Do my own fluid changes now and saves a bundle of money, especially on the F250 diesel. Try a salvage yard

You "roll the dice" when you bring your rig to one of those places. I'll bet your oil filter housing is over torqued too.

Not your fault. Get that quick lube place to fix it to the way it was before you entered the shop doesn't matter if its $300 or $3000 it is the shops responsibility. Whats more concerning is that they let it go without even notifying you, and only told you when asked. Fixing it with zipties is not a solution. Otherwise i have a 4.7 2005 filter box i have lying around

Why I don't let others do things I can do, especially the easy stuff. I'm 72 and still able to do most upgrades; brakes, suspension, all fluids, rotations. If I break something I know who to blame!

I agree with all of the other replies: Let the oil change shop worry about them. I do not recommend buying a replacement: If they decided to go back on their "word" you're out of luck.

All companies have insurance for a reason: this is one of those cases. Hell, See if you can get a performance intake like a TRD or aFe.

Hell yeah man! i just do basic maintenance items but im trying to start working on my own brakes suspension and other stuff eventually.

Have them send you a check for the $800, and call it even!!
They didn't even tell you before you left the shop, hoping you would not find out, till after your next oil change.

I have been in similar situation in the past… It’s usually cheaper for them to pay you to go away.

If I was in your shoes I would prefer to be cashed out at this point and handle the repairs myself. You can write up a document saying by paying the $800 you would find your own repairs and release them of any liability. It’s the last part that usually helps get the ink flowing and management would be happy to sign paper so they can move on and get back to business. If you are comfortable there is no issues or damage from a lack of proper seal on the air filter, then you have little to lose.

If they want to shop around and save coin on your repair, I would expect it to be done in a timely manner as well. It would not be unreasonable to ask for a rental car to minimize any possibility further damage as they seek a solution for you.

Just have a reasonable conversion with the person in charge, but don’t short change yourself or your time.

You have a point, but this would never go through insurance… I’m sure their general liability insurance deductible is higher than the $800. They would cut the OP a check before it goes there.

I get it and that's a good deal, but do you really want to go back?

What is a $100 oil change? I've only ever heard of prices like that on diesel trucks. What are they doing that costs $100?

even the 'euro blend' synthetics are around $75 where i live

I have a full air filter intake, i replaced mine.
mine is an 05 v8

Yeah I haven't been to an oil change shop in a while I guess. I was having my Subaru oil changed at a dealer for a while because they threw in a few with the purchase. Those included a tire rotation and multi point inspection. I don't remember the exact price, but I know it wasn't even close $100.

Typing that reminded me that I sent my wife to a local oil change shop while I was out of town for work a few years ago so she could get the oil changed in her Jetta. The guy ended up charging her $90 or $100. I remember being super pissed about that because I know if I had taken the car in there he wouldn't have had the balls to charge that much. Anyway, the point being that no oil change is worth $100. If they're breaking stuff you might as well take it to Walmart instead and pay half the price.
