For those of you that have installed the e7009 nav.. I am looking to get one of these units, but I don't need BT or voice controlled whatevers.. I just want the voice output and the nav.. that's it. Can I literally plug and play this unit??

do you have the JBL installed already? Even though you just want nav and voice at the minimum you will need to run 2 wires from the head unit to the amp in the rear. BUt yes, everything else will be plug and play

Well I'm not really sure. I'm just about to start that mod myself. Just got the E7009 unit a couple of weeks ago. Honestly, the guys that are swapping that unit in are doing the whole thing - I think that if you are going to go to the trouble you might as well go all the way. The biggest thing is whether or not you have the JBL synthesis sound system. If you do, and the subwoofer is in your rear cargo deck (you can tell by the speaker grill in the rear cargo wall) then it's pretty much plug and play. If you do not, then you have to get the JBL amp that is compatible with the Nav system - there are a few threads on the forum that speak to it. then you install the amp, but you will need to modify the wiring harness because it's likely to not have the connectors for the nav unit. Not sure if you can just buy from Toyota, I think you can, and install it yourself. then you can hook up the unit and you will be good. Honestly the two things - voice activation and BT are simple after that - hooking up the mic is fairly easy and the steering wheel controls are easy. the receiver already supports BT so whether you want it or not, with the E7009 unit you will have it.

my first post here, so don't flame me...

and yes, i know abou the search function...

speaking of plug and play:
i have a 2004 4runner ltd w/factory nav jbl synthesis system and i am thinking of replacing it with the e7009 solara nav

i want the bluetooth, the xm ready, the voice control, etc but i don't want to buy a new 4runner to get it.

so the question is: is the solara nav plug and play for the basic stuff in the '04 4runner?

i know i'd have to get all the other stuff like the right-hand controller, etc... but i don't want to do major splicing...

and sorry to hijack your thread RL4673

yes, i do have the JBL. oemvalue actually just emailed me back and said for what i want, it's plug and play with the exception of the speaker that gives voice directions and that's an extra $50. so, hopefully that might answer someone elses questions. there are a few less parts needed for the 06 according to the oemvalue website, but it should still work on an 03-05 with jbl.

i've done a bunch of searches and have found no one that has the oem nav and wants to upgrade it with a newer toyota nav hu...

hmmm
Thinking aloud here:
ok, so the nav ecu is built-in the solara hu; the '04 nav ecu just gets unplugged and stays where it is (i'm a lazy mofo);

i have the toyota rear camera already built-in, so i'm guessing there is input for that on the solara hu

if the stock harness plugs right into the solara hu, all i have to do is get the righthand steering wheel controller, mic, and route and plug those wires in, then add toyota XM and then i can get rid of the rf modulator unit and throw that into the landcruiser! WOOHOO!!!
