Quick electrical question.

My question.....

Is the 100Amp Blue Sea 285 breaker safe for my selected components and cable runs?

The likelihood of me drawing even 50Amps is probably going to be rare. But I don't want to create a dangerous situation in the event one day I did max it out.

a good quality 4 gauge ofc cable can handle 150 amp max at about 15 to 17 feet.

you should be fine with the 100 amp main fuse. but make sure on the block you wont exceed the 100 amp rating with all circuits add together.

Thanks... I expect to be well under those ratings perhaps by 40 -50%. I just like to be sure I'm not misreading specs.

I like the circuit breaker stays OPEN when tripped. Will not auto reset itself. I would still run a Maxi Fuse in the circuit. It's possible over time the Circuit Breaker could be permanently Closed. This could lead to a few different bad outcomes. A Fuse in the circuit would provide a fail safe. Maxi Fuse could be changed out to accommodate changes in load requirements.

So what if I put the Blue Sea under the hood and the fail safe back in the cargo area? with the fuse block?

I would put the fuse block under the hood near the battery. If you are using a 70amp circuit breaker go with an 80 amp fuse. 50 amp circuit breaker, 60 amp fuse. Circuit breakers can fail. A fuse would guarantee complete loss of accessory power. Carry 2 or 3 spare Maxi fuses.

If you are going to power an air compressor, remember it has a surge amp rating and a continuous draw amperage rating.

The compressor is already connected under the hood with 50AMP fuses.

I've never seen that BlueSea fuse holder before.

So in theory, if the BS Aux fuse block is rated at 100, I could get a 90Amp breaker and 100Amp failsafe fuse and everything would be in spec.

Those blocks only go to 80A and they are not weatherproof.

I think this would work though, and it's a little less expensive.
