Rack Mounted Awnings - Any Long Term Reviews Yet

[MENTION=66098]TwoDraft[/MENTION] - Is there any reason that the awning is stuck so far up and out, or is that what you were limited to with the mounting options.
If I get one of these things, I want it to be sucked in good and tight into the side of the Gobi Stealth so it doesn't get completely ripped off when I drive through trees and zombies. :madgrin:

It would appear it is so far up and out due to the overall length of the awning and to prevent it from obstructing the rear liftgate when open (seen from the tailgating picture). This could probably be solved with some sort mounting that lifts when needed, or simply a slightly shorter rod. I could be wrong though.

This was the easiest and cheapest method I could find to mount. I used a 4" L Bracket that I had with U Bolts that keep it in place. Its not perfect and I look forward to seeing other methods of securing it to the rack.

I've had a cvt awning for several months. Mounting to a gobi was super easy as it mounts directly to the side of Gobi stealth.
Now I've got the Hannibal mounted but it's not as a good fit as I'd like. I'm gonna have to take it apart and flip the mounting bracket around. The Hannibal awning is one seriously heavy duty piece of kit, from the heavy tent canvas material to the solid clamshell mount. Main reason why I switch is just pure laziness. I didn't want to have to deal with extending out the 2 legs everytime I set it up. By the way, the Hannibal weighs substantially more the CVT.

Can you get me the measurement between mounting holes, center to center? I may need a set for my Hannibal awning.

I ordered the ARB 2000 Awning today. 205$ SHipped, not bad at all.
When I get a hold of it, I'm gonna make some brackets to attach it to the Gobi stealth. I want is as tight in and low profile as possible.

Holey hole in the wallet. Those things are pricey, but the look good and I'm sure the quality is there. I made my brackets with $5 worth of steel. Sits about two inches off of the rack and just below the highest point on the rack.

Edit: The price on those Gobi mounts is rediculous... Still will most likely order some.

I have no idea if this company is reputable or not, I have never heard of them.

anyone mounted one of these to the backside to be used like in a tailgating situation? I currently just use one of those 12x12 portable deals, but this would be much less hassle. I realize the rear lift gate may play a role in this...but other than that, is there a reason it couldn't be used on the back vs the side?
Thnx!... based on the clearance, it doesn't even have to be a combined bracket; if they simply make one with the hi-lift rotate more towards the top of the rack, then you could run both brackets on the same side, regardless of what awning you're running.
Although for $50 I may simply go this route:
Not as nice, but certainly does the trick. Possibly more prone to rotating along the top tube because it does not tie into both like the Gobi brackets do.
