hard to say whats the best but pretty much it is

valentine 1 for highway / open road / undectable from all but spect 3(very sensitive)

bel sti (undetectable from everything, quieter then V1)

sti is $350, v1 is $300 just so you know

If you want something cheaper, the X50 is good for around 150-200 i believe

oh and STAY AWAY FROM COBRA

all they do is piss off high end RD users because of the amount of KA freq they leak, they don't detect anything.

Best Radar is the Valentine 1. It detects radar/laser/pop and has a indicator where the signal is coming from. It also will cost around $400

I personally bought the Escort Passport 8500 X50. It does EVERYTHING the V1 can do except tell you which direction the signal is coming from. Its radar is just as precise if not better than the V1. I like it better cause its cheaper (not the quality), and when I worked at best buy I got it for only $150. It was a no brainer for me. (oh, and it comes in blue or red LEDS, gotta have my blue :))

check out

radardetector.net

ive been a long time lurcher of that site. lots of useful information. be weary of unauthorized resellers though. bel or escort (same company) will not honor the warranty of a unit purchased from an authorized reseller.

I've been a reader of radardetector.net for a while too... and sorry my prices for v1 and sti are 400 and 450 respectively, not sure why i said 300 and 350

Good info to know.... I just landed a sweet $211 speeding ticket yesterday for going 69 in a 45 while passing 12 cars, BUT, the 12th car, was a cop. Niiiiiiiiice.

I have an early Valentine 1 I think it's early "90's" and it's saved me many times "Not that any of us ever speed but .... "Um" .... "Um" I was falling asleep and it woke my up so I slowed down ... saved again" I was going to get it upgraded but it's the cost of a new one so I just stick with it. :)

There is a new escort model out, I believe it is the 9500i. It has GPS and can remember false alarms and can also be programmed to remember speed traps. Just came out a few weeks ago but definitely worth taking a look at. It is made by passport I believe.

I have an 8500 and have no complaints so far. It is much better than the older models (7500 and earlier). I had it hardwired in and put a mute button in one of the knockoff buttons in the center console.

Ya, and make sure (if you have the money) to get a laser diffuser!!

How did you get the button to adhere to the underside of the blank?

Valentine 1 is THE BEST, bar none. Friend of mine has one, we used it on a trip from DFW to South Padre Island to go party at spring break. We took his Ram and did a consistent 90-110 mph the whole way, passed about 20 or more cops, but it worked so well, we knew so far in advance of their presence, and which direction to look for them, that we made it there and back with no problems, even running at those speeds. That little run convinced me V1 is the best I've ever seen or used.

I had an older Bel, back in the late 90's, and it worked half ass, until I loaned it to a friend's brother, and the bastard dropped it twice in the parking lot on the concrete. After that it never worked right again. Hell, had a cop pull me over on the service road and it never went off, finally started going off about the time the cop got out of his car and was about to my driver door. He asked me how much that thing costed, I said too much, as I pulled it off the mount, and chucked it through the beer window into the truck bed.

Drilled a hole through the middle of the blank. the electronics had to come out of th casing becasue the mute button with casing was too large. Most istall shops could probably do it for you as well...

Some years ago I had a friend that got pulled over in Connecticut and the cop noticed the detector on his dash then the cop asked to see it and smashed it on the pavement........... I guess this was a common site back in the 80's early 90's in CT as well as in NJ so im told.

I guess someone took the cops to cort and this can no longer be done though.

If a cop did that to something of mine, he'd be going to the ER to have a night stick, a coffee cup, and a partly eaten box of donuts, extracted from his wide ass. He may wear a badge, but that does not give him the right to destroy personal property. :bash:
