Radar Mount

Just wanted to give a quick write up of my stealth/rear view mirror radar install.

I bought the mount from Radar Mounting Brackets

this is a great quality product. I've had it for 4 years in 3 different vehicles.I bought it for my lexus IS350, then used it (minor dremel modification to make it fit the larger stem) on my F150, now put it in my 2014 4runner.

I also used the mirrortap wire mentioned here MirrorTap Radar Detector Power Cords

I had issues in the past with the small wire taps bending and being a pain in the ass to plug in so I used some quick clamp on wire taps for small gauge wires that I bought at radio shack for $2.50 to tap into the rear view mirror wires.

The black wire (negative) on the tap goes to the black and white wire from the rear view mirror and the red (positive) goes to the blue wire. Just clamp on the taps, clamp on the mount to the rear view mirror and that's it. Works great and easy and cheap.

Nice! I also use a radar detector mount from country joy crafts. In fact, I have probably bought a dozen or so mounts from them over the years ( not all for me though). Their two piece mounts are a lot easier to adjust just right compared to the older one piece mounts.

I just installed mine last week.

Thanks for this, I've been wondering how to get a cleaner mount for my V1 that brings it closer to me. Ordered my mount today.

hello, nice work, planning on doing same on my $runner. Just wondered if you took any steps to keep the quick clamp on wire taps from making contact, or are they shielded ? coated
excuse my ignorance not very electrically minded. thanks

The front of the dash is way above the hood and wipers, its higher than built in detectors. I get notifications miles ahead, I've never come close to not having enough heads up.

It's only a bad location for laser, which is worthless on a standalone detector anyway

you should have seen my BMW, i had 4 laser shifter/jammers front and rear with built-in escort radar detector as well as waze and CB - never a single ticket after installing everything (which given my track record meant it paid for itself pretty quick)

now i'm just using a basic single head standalone detector and the ALP laser shifters are in a box, this thing is such a giant brick i don't think you could cover it with enough laser shifters to be effective.
