Radflo 2.5 and old man emu springs

Hi,

I have a Radflo 2.5 setup front and rear. I was thinking of replacing the rear coil springs with Old Man Emu 895 and taking out the Radflo's but keeping the Radflo 2.5 shocks. Has anyone else done this? I have 700lbs springs on my front coil overs because of my bumper and winch, as well as a second battery coming soon. I didn't want to have to preload the front coil overs to get the right amount of lift. This is also the reason I am thinking of putting the old man emu springs in the rear to prevent sagging when towing or having the back filled with recovery gear and tools.

I have the 2.5's as well with Eibach coils in the rear. The Eibachs are rated at 220 lbs per inch. I am considering adding a spacer to gain about 1.5 inches of additional lift while maintaining the current spring rate (which is quite comfortable).

Another option might be going with the Allpro 3.5 coils which, I believe, have a similar spring rate as the Eibachs but would provide about 1.5" of additional lift. The OME 895's would provide greater load capacity as I believe they are rated at 260 lbs per inch (and a significantly firmer ride) but they would not provide you with any additional lift than what you have now.

The 895's gave me about 2", maybe slightly more of lift. With 4 people, fridge (full), & 200# of luggage I lost about .75-1" of ride height in the rear. They are fairly firm setup. I almost would rather use the allpro 3.5" and have them more compressed under the weight. The OME 895's are at the limit of the dampening on my Fox/AllPro rear resi shocks. You might run into the same with the Radflo rear shocks.

Wow, that's way more than OME suggested when I spoke with them. Good to have the story from actual use.

It all depends. I had the whole OME setup before i broke down and went Fox. I am very happy with my decision. The ride quality is very good, But the rate if the OME 895's is pretty firm. It is right at the dampening limit of my current Fox's. When i get them rebuild i will have them valved just a tad firmer. If i went with AllPro 3.5" rears i would need longer brake lines and longer rear shocks.. I just down need that, unless they would sag 1.5" under my current load, them that would work..I have made so many changes that i just need to stick with what i have.

I am ok with the ride quality given the load carrying ability of the 895's. If i wasn't going to be carrying heavier loads off road i would opt for something slightly softer. It is nice to not lose alot of ride height under heavier loads..

It's not really the spring rate that is going to be the issue here thats really more of a preference some like stiff and others like a little softer ride.

The coils have to have the proper free height so as when the shocks are fully extended the coils don't have the ability to freely pop out. Generally speaking if your running the factory sway bar links you wouldn't have any issues with any of the coils available; however, if your running extended sway bar links and extended travel shocks you'll need to ensure the right about of free height on the coils.

I previously had the OME 897 rear coils with radlfo 2.5 rear extended travel shocks and i noticed when the axle was fully drooped there was about an inch or more space between the coil buckets and the top of the coils.

So I have the eibach and OME 895 currently. Should I get the all pros 3.5's? I just want to have everything ready to go when have the lift installed. If I will get a better rider with out having to much sag or any at all with recovery gear and possibly a sent drawers for storge on Americana.com which I have in my work truck.

I am looking at going with the Radflo 2.5" kit with the 2" lift rear springs.
My question is about load capacity for the rear. We just did a long overland type trip (6k miles) and had over 1000 lbs in/on our 4runner. I'm trying to still have a decent ride when the truck isn't loaded for camping/exploring, but don't want to bottom out when loaded. I am also hoping this suspension kit will be much less skittish on wash board roads. Has anyone paired this kit with air bags (Firestone or Air Lift)?
