Radflo Rear shocks with Icon coilovers?

Ok so I am getting ready to do my next upgrade. I have my eye on some rear shocks and lower links. I have read nothing but good things about Radflo and MetalTech. I enjoy the price of the radflo 2.5's non reservoir however I am not sure that mismatching Radflo (progressive) vs Icon (digressive) would be a good idea. I have Icon extended travel front coilovers currently with 2.0 rear shocks. I am not overly happy with the ride of the rear shocks and I got them on a craigslist deal with the front coilovers so I am not attached to them. Thoughts?

It's typically best to match front and rear but I know people who mix and match and are happy. You could send the rears out to be re-valved.. what exactly about the rear do you not like? It can be tricky to get a rear live axle keep up with ifs, at least in my experience. Are there other things influencing your ride, such as load or rear coils that could be the cause?

Considering Icon catches top dollar (for reasons beyond me, perhaps good marketing with their "stage scheme") you may consider just replacing the whole system with Radflo.. you might even come out on top if you catch Metaltech on one of their 10-15% off Radflo deals and you install yourself.

You could always just install the rear Radflo and if the front feels off put Radflo fronts in and resell the Icon, that way your truck won't be down in the interim. You got options which is always good.

I figured it was not good to mismatch and I thought about getting them revalved but I really didnt want to throw money at them if I didnt want to keep them. I purchased the stage 2 kit for $500 on craigslist 1 coilover leaked a little. I rebuilt both coilovers and converted them to extended travel. I enjoy the sporty ride on the road. I do not like a lot of lean that progressive shocks seem to have. Had some kings on my tacoma a while back.
I think the issue is rebound but I cant be sure. I had the same complaint about the 5100's i had before this. I think I get an extra bounce when i take a bump.

What spring do you have? Shocks are not going to make any difference if the springs are wrong for your configuration.

Walker Evans Coilovers with 600lb springs in front and Icon 2.0 VS extended travel with Metal Tech HD springs in the rear. Works very well together.
Icons in the front might feel better yet, but hardly worth the $1800 to find out.

I didn't look at your build thread but I imagine you have a lot of weight back there. I know those shocks are valved specifically for those Springs. I have no rear bumper maybe 150 pounds extra when its loaded. I have a sinking suspicion my shocks may be valved for the icon 2" lifting spring. I don't know how that compares to the ome2895e but maybe they are different and that's why my rebound is off?

Ok did some searching, icon coils 207# spring rate. 895e 260# spring rate. Think a revalve is in order.

You could try comparing the spring rates for both the OME and Icon rear coils to see how they compare.

Yeah, I have a 200-250lbs back there, probably closer to 350lbs when I'm packed for camping or a wheeling trip.

Talked to icon today they have a solution and agreed I most likely needed more rebound. They are going to send me a parts list and I'll update you when I get it.

The more I think about it the more I realize matching anything with icon would not work well, the way they are valved is opposite of everyone else so they wouldn't match up very well. I am going to try this revalve and see if I like it. I'm saving up for some 2.5 rears and will most likely stick with icon as they have treated me right thus far.

How did these stories end? To my surprise, I read someone being happy with digressive front (6112s) and progressive rears.

I also know from one of the better retailers that they sell quite a few 6112 fronts with Fox 2.0 rears.

I guess the idea is that the front, which is more comfortable anyway, gets the better control, which it can sure use over stock, whereas the rear gets the better comfort, which it can also use over stock.

It is sure a fun topic for discussion.

I also second the opinion that except for the need to add a rock guard, the Radflo 2.5 non-RR rear is the most interesting rear shock at a contained price.

Well much depends on who is doing the rebuild. At the right time and from the right vendor, Radflo, Fox, Icon fronts can be had for 1100s. So, how much less you want to be to justify getting someone elses stuff? It would be very subjective. Some people hate used stuff and some really like to take any savings available.

Personally, I pay more to get my preferences unless there is a truly great deal to be had in which case I take the latter lol.
