hey guys. New guy here and just got my 1st 3rd gen. Previously built a Crawler 1984 p/u locked and sat on 38's.

Anyhow I just picked up this gem. It has been in a front end collision so air bags have been deployed but not replaced.

my main concern is replacing the Radiator and possibly putting in a big tranny cooler and while searching that I came across the words "dreaded Pink Milkshake" is the tranny cooler inside the radiator? Is it difficult to by pass that ?

love the forum and all the builds you guys have done.

Have a blessed Memorial day weekend.

Bottom 2" or so of the rad is our tranny cooler. Easy to bypass. Just look at the bottom in the back and you'll see the hoses going to and from it.

Yeah, its super easy. Just mount the cooler to the front of the radiator (the cooler usually comes with fancy zip ties). Move the hoses from the radiator to the cooler. You may need to get some extra hose because the stock ones are most likely too short. I got 10 feet for a few bucks at Autozone.
The cooler can be mounted in any orientation (except down; the manual says not to).
I forget the direction the tranny fluid moves, but IIRC, if you have the cooler mounted sideways, you want the fluid to enter the cooler from the bottom port and leave through the top.
You can easily tell which hose goes where. Just remove both hoses from the radiator, plop them in a bucket, then start the engine for a minute. Whichever hose the fluid comes out of mounts to the lower port of the cooler.
Then make sure to use some hose (can be the old hose) to attach the now unused ports on the radiator together. That way you won't leak coolant if the radiator fails.
