Clutch Failure Symptoms?

So my 2002 T4R with automatic transmission won't move and I think it's the clutch but I wanted to confirm with you guys or see what else it might be.

It was driving fine earlier today and after it was parked it won't go in to gear. Any of the gear selections result in the RPMs running up and it doesn't move (like it's in neutral) and when we put it back in Park there is a grinding noise.

About a year ago the radiator failed and the transmission cooler line broke off. We didn't have the pink milkshake but the transmission did run very low or even dry before we could safely pull over. It was towed in and the radiator replaced and it has driven fine since then, for several thousand miles.

So what say you? Clutch or something else? Any options beside rebuilding/replacing the clutch? TIA

I think you have suffered the common planetary gear failure that the 01 and 02 model transmissions are known for. Just so you know, you don't have a clutch like a manual transmission does but you do have clutch plates that can wear out.

The only other possibility is your flex plate cracked all the way around and that's why you have zero forward propulsion.

I'd start by removing the access hatch on the bottom of the bell housing and taking a look at your flex plate. If the flex plate is still intact, I'd drop your pan. I think my first guess is probably right and your planetary gear imploded and I bet you'll find a plethora of metal chunks which means it's transmission replacement time.

I don't remember if the 02 has a neutral position in the transfer case, but could it possibly be in neutral? That would explain the grinding when you put it in park.

Try putting it in 4 lo and see if it moves
