radiator replacement

I have original radiator on my 1990 auto and am thinking it might be a good idea to replace, even though it's not leaking.

Anyone else running original radiator, or have a suggestion for replacement brand? Thanks.

About four years ago, the radiator in my '92 was developing pinhole leaks in the top tank. I had it replaced by a shop. The replacement radiator has plastic tanks. Unfortunately, I don't where the shop got it. But they were available about 4 years ago. Good luck.
 
I'd been told that Moline made the best radiators...guaranteed for life or something like that.

So when I needed a new radiator for my '90 4Runner, I put in a Moline. Well, it wasn't all that long (a year or a bit more) before it failed. Rather than exercise the guarantee, I just had a Toyota dealer put in a new radiator. Don't know what kind, but it's still going strong years later.
 
Not sure if yours is a 22RE or a 3.0 but i put an all aluminum V6 radiator with electric fan and shroud in my 22RE 4Runner. just had to redrill the 2 lower mounting holes.

I wonder if the V6 radiator would actually improve cooling on a 22RE,
What was the problem you had that made you change radiators, and did the V6 radiator significantly fix it?

I've heard that the OEM radiator for 3.0 also works.
Does anybody have first-hand experience with this?

the V6 radiators are a couple inches taller so there are more cooling fins. I didnt really have a problem, i had just gotten the 4Runner and was revamping a lot of stuff. i can tell you that the electric fan on a thermostat has not even kicked on yet (but it is winter also) and the heater still works good.
 
I recently replaced the original in my 92 also and I'm glad I did. The radiatior shop tested it out and it was really bad. It was all brittle and not repairable. It all appeared to be fine in the truck but I just had a feeling that I should get it checked out. They can get rotten.

So the shop got me a brand new 4 core all copper radiator like the original. These 3.0's like to stay cool so I wasn't going to mess with one of those 1 or 2 core aluminum ones with the plastic tanks. I figure the original lasted this long, another one like it ought to go another 25 plus years.

Just replacing the radiator the rig is running cooler also. Go ahead and do it. Talk to a local shop and let them know you want a 4 core copper like original.
 
Original rad on a ‘95

Still running the original radiator in my ‘95...though I have seen specks of coppery/gold metal in the coolant reservoir.

We just blew out the head gasket and Hydrolocked so I was debating replacing it... any thoughts guys? I’ve been running green. Did not know about the green vs red thing, so I drained the rad and will be replacing with red rad fluid
