this may be a stupid question, but is there a way to change the cd in the changer from the controls on the steering wheel? i noticed the other day i hit the volume control and the next track button at the same time, and it changed to another cd. if i hold the volume down and hit the track button at the same time, i can toggle through the 6 cd's. i wasnt sure if this was a known feature, or if i have discovered something here! i know it was pissin me off that i couldnt change the cd from the steering wheel, and i was thinkin an extra button to do so would be nice....but its not needed now that i have found this out!!!

And if you hold the "mode" button down, it turns the unit off. I've not found a list of all the functions of those controls, have you? But they are darned handy and I miss them when in a rental car.

.

i didnt know that either...i figured id post this as there is nothing in the manual about it...i was thinkin they buttons were inadequate, but theres alot more functions to them its gr8!

functions

ok i just went out and played around with the controls for a bit, so for those of you who didnt know about this, ill list the functions below....
1 - hold down the track button (either up or down), and then hit the volume up or volume down to change the cd to the next.
to skip more than one, you have to release the buttons and do it again.
2 - hold down the mode button, to both turn on and turn off the radio
as i said before, people may know this already, but ive had the truck for 4 months and i just found this out today by accident!

Is there any way to cycle through your preset station using the steering wheel controls? I don't want to always scan through all of the radio stations.

.

ya i know i hate that - it shud only cycle your presets...ill play with it tomorrow and see if its possible

Hold the button till it beeps -- it advances to the next preset station.

On mine it is just the opposite. Hitting the button moves to the next preset. Holding it down 'til it beeps moves to the next station.

Interesting....just to be sure, I double-checked mine and just hitting the button scans for the next station; holding it till it beeps moves it to the next preset.

There's no need to even touch the volume control button to change cds. Just hold on to the up or down controls for about 2 seconds, then release.

In all the 4runners i've driven when you hit the button once it moves to the next preset station as well.

Mine is the opposite, when you hit the up or down button on the steering wheel, is performs a search, not the presets, which I hate.

Checked mine again this morning, and that is exactly how it performs. Odd that others perform just the opposite.

Is it possible that it the head units are different? Mine is the stock radio in the SR5. Maybe the JBL units act differently?

I've got the JBL /w NAV. I am sure there is a way to program this, since it seem like everything else in the 4Runner can be programed :)

.

i checked mine again, and it does scroll the presets wen you hold it down and it beeps. geez im glad i started this, i feel like i have a new car with all these added features!!! i always thought that a couple extra buttons would be nice.

i found this by accident in the owner's manual while looking for info on the hydrophylic glass.

it starts at page 209

quickly pressed = select preset station
hold till beep = seek a station
