Radio cutting out and now out!

2015 SRT 4Runner. At first, the backlights on the radio would blink intermittently. Then they went off all the way for short intervals. You could not turn radio on when that happened. Now it’s completely out. I.e. pushing the power in/off button does nothing. What’s odd is you can turn it on by utilizing the controls on the steering wheel. Any suggestions or clues anyone can offer would be appreciated. Merry Christmas
