Radio/ Navigation Rest During Driving?

Today while I was driving, my navigation and radio completely shut down, went black, then did the reset (similar to when you start the car), then became completely non-responsive. The touch screen, steering wheel controls, and radio control buttons did not work. The radio/ nav reset again about 2 minutes later. When I reached my destination, I turned the truck off and restarted it (I was picking up someone). The radio and Nav worked just fine after that and has since.

Anyone else experienced this? I am sure it is a dealer fix, but very strange to say the least.

I experienced the same thing several times back in Sep. I told the dealer about it and they upgraded the firmware and I haven't seen the problem since.

Hopefully it is something simple. But very strange. Never had a vehicle do that to me. Good thing I kind of knew where I was going as the Nav went out with my directions!

Mine has done the very same thing the OP has stated 5 times in the last 3weeks.
Videoed each time and contacted the dealership, sent them the vids, they want to check to see if it has the latest software update. Appt for Thursday.

I have a 2013 SR5 that does this. On my latest trip, I was switching from the Nav screen to Audio when the touch screen became completely unresponsive. It didn't restart (like it typically does) and I could not get back to the Nav screen. I had to pull over, completely turn off the truck and restart. I've had a few firmware/software upgrades over the last 2 years but this does keep happening occasionally. I use my Nav A LOT; nearly every weekend since March traveling to dog shows. Fortunately this hasn't happened all that much.

There is also another thread on this very subject: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/162771-2014-entune-problems.html

Both my 4Runner and Tundra have had this issue... The Tundra has been in to Toyota for update and no issue since then and since then is when the T4R started having problems. Hopefully I can get it in soon as well.

Very helpful. I will see what the local dealer has to say and let you guys know. Thanks for the thread for the Entune problems. Sometimes you search and just don't find the right threads.

If not a software update issue have them check the electrical system. Mine does the same when winching a heavy load. All else is fine but th nav seems to reboot.

I have this happen now and then.

ALWAYS with navigation on. And usually when zoomed WAY out like one or two whole states showing on the screen at once. I like seeing how much time I have left when going from say San Diego to Moab.

Then I won't see it again for 6 months till my next trip and I forget about it till it's too late.

Update:
The dealership installed a new update today, see photos.

EDIT: Update to software had to be done via Techstream, otherwise I had the latest update.

When you did the update, did it erase any settings on your unit?

When updated I think the voice on the navigation went back to about 4.
I haven't had enough time to look at everything yet....

:sorry:

If you didn't notice anything else, thats a good sign. I was worried about all the radio presets, sound settings, nav settings and address book etc.

Sounds like a minimal inconvenience for the update. I'll visit my service dept this weekend.

Thanks!

None of that changed. Very un-intrusive update.

I just hope it fixed the issues.....
